gnarly sceptre, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:03 (seventeen years ago)

the size of a rabbit according to some reports, the size of a cat according to others.

Grandpont Genie, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

Many rabbits are the size of a cat.

Tuomas, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:12 (seventeen years ago)

Only a very small cat.

Matt DC, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:14 (seventeen years ago)

I am the average rabbit

Very small cat?

Tuomas, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

It's essentially a really small, furry elephant, isn't it?

Matt DC, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

b-but we don't know how big the girl w/ the bow & arrow is!

Grandpont Genie, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:28 (seventeen years ago)

Okay, according to Wikipedia brown hares are technically not rabbits, so I guess I was wrong. But their body-sixe is 50-70 cm.

Tuomas, Friday, 1 February 2008 12:34 (seventeen years ago)

it reminds me of that bit in the Stephen Jay Gould book where he says that school text books always described the first horse hyracotherium as being "the size of a fox terrier" and so he went back through the literature and found that older books either said it was "the size of a fox" or "the size of a terrier" until one eventually put the two together and the description stuck.

RHYNOCHOCYON UDZUNGWENSIS

Whatever happened to naming an animal after the sound it makes, like cuckoo? (I don't suppose this new mammal's name is onomatopeical)

StanM, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

Okay either that dude is enormous or ppl are drastically underestimating the size of cats.

HI DERE, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

gff, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

This is why aliens don't land here:

"look there!"
"what's that?"
"don't know, let's kill it!"

This thing is absolutely fantastic! It is like an anteater platypus. Very cute! Has it yet a short name other than its highly Eastern European looking binomial nomenclature?

Abbott, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

George

sunny successor, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:31 (seventeen years ago)

Of the Jungle?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

That thing is gross. I might be going to Tanzania for work sometime in the next year. If so, I will look out for one. ;-)

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

Haha I think the chimpanzee is gross. Together we balance the universe.

Abbott, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

True although jeez A get it right, it's the orangutans I'm obsessed with, not chimps. ;-)

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

My hell.

Abbott, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

I would like to tell that little fellow I love him!

what is this bizarro subject above?

baaderonixx, Saturday, 2 February 2008 12:28 (seventeen years ago)

The giant rodents were created with diminutive actors inside rat suits. On the day Westley was supposed to battle the giant rat, the "rat actor" was pulled over for speeding and subsequently arrested, and actually had to be bailed out of jail by the filmmakers so the scene could be filmed.

Kerm, Saturday, 2 February 2008 12:40 (seventeen years ago)

actually it's RHYNCHOCYON ie Snout-Dog, not RHYNOCHOCYON.
