and what, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

I drank whiskey every night and recorded three homemade albums. I'm glad it's over (and so are the people who listened to those three homemade albums.)

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

i've lived by myself for 10 years now!

s1ocki, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

five years and counting

Mackro Mackro, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

Soon.

ledge, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

i couldn't afford to do this even if i wanted to

blueski, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

i'd be happy if i had internet, sports channels and books. i wouldn't even notice i was alone, tbh.

darraghmac, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

i live with my cat, does that count?

bell_labs, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

I've never done this. I have no idea what it'd be like.

kenan, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

Rock, you spend a lot of time hoping that someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

i could never live with roommates again unless we were like in a huge loft or something.

s1ocki, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

I don't like living alone. I become a complete slob and forget what my bedtime is.

Bonita Applebum, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

Living with other people keeps my expectations healthily low, I think. I mean we'll see how I feel in another three months but right now I'm pretty happy in a shitty loft with six other people and one rat. At least you always know where you stand (hopefully not by the rat).

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

I'm afraid if I lived alone I'd turn into one of those people who gets secretly mad when you move the dish sponge.

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

one of those people who gets secretly mad when you move the dish sponge.

yah this is one of many reasons its better for me to live alone - its pretty embarrassing to think of the things ive gotten pissed at roommates for

jhøshea, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

i wouldn't live with roomates again unless there was a huuuuuge kitchen and 2 bathrooms so i wouldnt have to anxiously wait to cook and pee

bell_labs, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

i'd be happy if i had internet, sports channels and books. i wouldn't even notice i was alone, tbh.

well, i have these things, and believe me, sometimes you still can't help but notice. Sometimes it's not so easy, 'specially when your only friend...

But overall, I love it. I demand lots and lots (and sometimes lots more) alone time. I have a talent for not wanting to be around other people all that often, and when I am, I have to recharge by myself for a good while afterwards. So, there's always a reliable place for that.

Also, I have moved in with two girlfriends in the past, and I can't help but think that they'd still at least speak to me if we'd never moved in together. I'm a fucking bitch.

kenan, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

I don't like living alone. I become a complete slob and forget what my bedtime is. :D

Haha I was gonna do that.

But so many times I think I'd be into living alone and then N. takes the kids away for a couple of days and I go to (more) useless bits.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

Mr. Que, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

My slobbiness comes in waves that are directly related to my emotional well-being that week. But I love the feeling of cleaning up my messes, doing all my laundry, extracting the cat hair from every surface, scrubbing the toilet, etc etc, and then kicking back and going, "Alright. My space is a good clean space." And then starting over again.

kenan, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

actually, i've changed my mind- being 26 and living with your brother two minutes walk from your girlfriend rocks.

darraghmac, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

Five years and counting as well. After the utter acrimony that prevailed when my last housemates were almost literally at each other's throats, I couldn't wait to get my own spot. Paying more was still worth it for peace of mind alone.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

ya - that's the thing. less money = going out for the sake of being around people hits the wallet that much harder

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

i also live in a neighbourhood pretty densely packed with my bros and hos. which makes a big difference.

s1ocki, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

But I love the feeling of cleaning up my messes, doing all my laundry, extracting the cat hair from every surface, scrubbing the toilet, etc etc, and then kicking back and going, "Alright. My space is a good clean space." And then starting over again.

Clean, little Dutch boy.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

What s1ocki said -- two very good friends of mine live nearby in their condo, while lots of other folks are within a few miles of the area, and there's a ton of good spots to sit/chat/have a drink/get a meal all within a couple of blocks. Makes things pretty easy!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)

i have never lived alone. i like living with people tho, as long as i have my own space.

max, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

I lived alone in a studio for almost two years and for most of which I had neither internet nor tv. I drank - a lot. I also drunk dialed friends all over the country and ran up ENORMOUS phone bills. That said, living alone was one of the best things I ever did. I wouldn't want to do it now though despite having really really bad roommate experiences in the past. Thankfully my husband is the best roommate I've ever had.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

BTW, we live in a studio so it's good thing he is otherwise we'd have probably killed each other already.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

But so many times I think I'd be into living alone and then N. takes the kids away for a couple of days and I go to (more) useless bits.

so OTM its untrue ( except in my case L. takes the kids away not N. It'd be wrong for your other half to steal my children)

Thomas, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

Clean, little Dutch boy.

Yeah, there's no winning, especially against cat hair. I do try to not let the dyke get to the point where it requires my whole fist, though. You know, like when it's no longer "doing laundry," it's "washing every single piece of clothing you have ever owned in your adult life." Living alone does make it easier to get to that point, I gotta admit. :(

kenan, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

xpost

lolz I am now trying to work out if I know you or not dude

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

I do try to not let the dyke get to the point where it requires my whole fist, though.

You did this shit on purpose, right?

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

The only time I've lived alone was when I first got together with my wife and she had to go back to the states to sort out visas and stuff. I'd only just got a job after 18 months unemployed so I was broke and my salary was shit for London, so I got us a tiny studio which I lived in alone for a few months. No TV, but I didn't really mind that cos I had internet and music. I'm happier living with other people though, that's for sure.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry, but I haven't a clue what you must mean.

kenan, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

i love living alone! although it sux that my friends are all spread out over the city/county/metro area. it's not like college where i can just walk down the hall and knock on the door of their dorm room.

chaki, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

just starting my 5th(?) year. I really don't think I can go back. Like ever. I'm not opposed to marriage and kids, but I'm going to strongly suggest we maintain separate residences. Maybe next door or across the street or something.

I'm currently in the process of turning raw attic space into a 2 bed/ 1 bath deal with the intention of getting a house mate to help out with the mortgage. Sometimes when I'm real honest with myself I know I'll never actually do it.

will, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

I think it may be only a slight exaggeration to say that I would give up eating before I give up living alone. (Cheaper that way, too!)

kenan, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

people who love alone

carne asada, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

I had kind of a hard time living alone because I got weird and because I got afraid I would die of carbon monoxide poisoning or the Mad Gasser or something, which kept me up all night. And I was a huge slob. Now I live with a huge slob, so I get to feel okay I'm not the only one. I do need my own bedroom though.

Abbott, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

i loved living alone and in some ways think i kept things cleaner then. it will be some time before i can afford it again, but i dream of it almost daily (nb i have no problems with my roommates at all, i just love having my own place)

It's almost six o' clock, and I'm just now getting to the chores of the day--but it does look like I can get them all done by nine.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 21:45 (fourteen years ago)

I lived alone for 18 months and it was pretty awesome. Of course, I did spend 4 nights a week w/my future wife and then 2 nights playing music, so I was only really "alone" one night a week. I sometimes miss the simplicity of living alone. I occasionally pine for the days when all I had to do when I got home was check the mail and heat up dinner. Now I scurry around like a rat for about 4 hours before I sit down - feeding pets, doing domestic chores, feeding & bathing the baby, etc.

homosexual II, Thursday, 23 September 2010 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

i love living alone!
i also love wallace stevens' sundays! even if they hurt my heart sometimes
i like being able to use all the space in my home (which is small) because it is there and it is mine. i like lying on the floor and knowing that it is clean (or dirty but my dirt). i like not having to talk to anyone i don't really want to talk to.
i could live with someone i loved, i am sure. that is different. but would need a studio or a closed-door office in the apartment/house to go work/just be sometimes.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 23 September 2010 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

I lived alone for a few years and it was awesome. I'm living with my gf now and it is also awesome.

However, I find living with people who are not family or significant others to be really torturous.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 23 September 2010 02:59 (fourteen years ago)

lived alone for 13 of the last 15 years, love it. loneliness & boredom don't come into it really, i've never found myself short of something to occupy the mind.

though it's not something i'd do regularly, i once spent 2 weeks without seeing anyone else when i was between jobs, i don't think i've ever been more relaxed
