Help Me Regain My Sanity and Stop Obsessing!

Okay, here's the deal: I'm trying to figure-out the name of an actor, and for the life of me I'm stumped - and since I can't figure-out his name, or what I've seen him in, I can't Google him ... and this is driving me batty beyond belief. (Sad thing is that I've been through this before, trying to figure-out his name and last time I did eventually determine his identity, but tonight I'm drawing blanks.)

So here's the details:
- Male
- Lives in the Pasadena area (he actually brings a cat to my vet's office and we've chit-chatted about rabbits before - and tonight I saw him at a local dinerish place)
- Probably in his 60s to early 70s
- Not more than 6' tall, likely closer to 5'9"
- Beer belly
- Very thick neck and large double-chin which obscures the neck
- Crew cut / flat-top hair cut, very short, receding dramatically at the temples, but still comes to somewhat of a widow's peak on the forehead
- I think he'd be categorized as a character actor or minor actor
- I can picture him playing a small town sheriff / cop
- I think I've seen him in some military or space films (I've looked though the cast listings for The Right Stuff[i/], [i]From the Earth to the Moon, and Apollo 13 and haven't found him, but that doesn't mean he's not there)
- I keep picturing him wearing a plaidish button-up shirt, open at the collar, with a t-shirt on underneath, but that may have been what he was wearing at the vet's office
- He kind of reminds me of Barry Corbin's character on Northern Exposure, in appearance
- You could almost cast him to play this guy in a movie, though he'd have to shave his widow's peak - oh, and no glasses, either:
