Thread title is slightly inaccurate for dramatic effect. Please read http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/07/arts/design/07nypl.html

When I lived in New York and worked around the corner, that Donnell branch of the library always had the single best $1 used books cart of any place on the planet.

I was taken to the 21 Club once for my birthday and had a $30 hamburger (it was pretty damned good).

I read about that a few months ago. Nuts!

The Donnell has quite a trove of international DVDs.

Yeah, I've wanted to buy stuff from that $1 cart in the past, but haven't gotten around to it. I almost got "Yo, Robot" by Isaac Asimov.

I almost bought that book yesterday.

I saw it a while ago in the NYPL 2000 Books to Remember and then found it yesterday looking for images for this thread. I might reserve it, but probably should pick it up at a branch different from the Donnell.

I got a hold of the Stork Club yesterday and so far it is really good. Perhaps will post some cherce nuggets later.

The woman in the center of the cover photo behind Orson Welles's cigar looks like Margaret Sullavan, but I'm not sure. Cannot identify anyone else (hardback cover has bigger photo) but feel like I should be able to.
