I really really have a hard time controlling my emotions when this happens. What makes it more frustrating is that I am pretty forgiving and easy to placate (alternately, I easily fly into histrionic fits), so if a guy wants to utterly blow me off, it's pretty easy to do with relatively few fireworks. It just takes a smidge of effort, a subtly-placed "baby." It just takes a fucking text message saying, "sorry, I got to take a raincheck." Why is that so fucking hard? This motherfucker had better be good and bloodied or his mom better be dead or some shit like that.

I parsed this title as "How to quell the blind rage that accompanies standing up" and thought woah, I've heard about anger issues but that's ridiculous.

I guess it depends whether it's the first date or not. Whenever I go on a first date with someone, just before the date I get terribly scared and have an uncontrollable urge to just run away and never show up. In that situation it's kind understandable, though rude nevertheless. But if it's not the first date and "stuff" has already happened, then I don't really get it.
Now that think of it, I've never been stood up or stood up someone, even though I've been on countless dates. Weird.

sometimes I have that too (xpost)
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:14 (seventeen years ago)
Tuomas, it's not weird, it just means you trust your instincts and pick people who are nice & don't do that crap xpost
this was NOT to be a first date
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:16 (seventeen years ago)
anyway, I just hate my tendency to get so angry about things like that, to just really fixate and waste so much energy caring
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:17 (seventeen years ago)
all i need right now is Ned's wrestling photo
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:18 (seventeen years ago)
"Ned's wrestling photo"?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)
Now I really want to know!
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)
oh, you know
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:24 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, that one... Yeah, I remember that. I was expecting something else though.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)
anyway, so dude (with whom I've enjoyed sexual congress for almost exactly one year) texts me at 1:53 (we both work at night, and it is very common for us to get together late) saying he's finishing up some work & it should be about 15. Now, of course I am willing to tack up to 30 minutes onto the 15, because I'm not a complete fool. At about 2:45 I text to say, "hope you're okay. What happened?" Nothin. I call him about 10 minutes later, and...?? It would have been perfectly reasonable for him to say, "I have a lot more to do/I'm tired/I'll see you another time..." I just feel totally powerless and like a complete ass. And by the way, I seriously doubt an emergency came up. If it did, I will feel bad, but I just seriously doubt it.

ooo...what else? xpost
you cannot deny the power of that sports illustrated picture
It's a great pic, but I thought "Ned's wrestling photo" would have involved Ned in a wrestling suit.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:35 (seventeen years ago)
oh man, that would be amazing
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:35 (seventeen years ago)
so yeah, the fact that I'm reacting so strongly just doesn't bode well either way, because whether my anger is justified or not, dude obviously makes me feel crazy insecure
― emilys., Tuesday, 12 February 2008 10:38 (seventeen years ago)
not Ned
"Dear Emily, Here is your single's love horoscope for Tuesday, February 12:
Resist the urge to be greedy, when it comes to things, attention or even another person's time. These days, it's particularly important to make the most of what you have, and to avoid dwelling on what you don't. "
whoops!
