T/S: Häagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry's?

does this seem obv or is it just me? ben and jerry's.

I think I have to go with HD on this. Too many amazing products over the years. B&J's is great - don't get me wrong.

I'm asking because I've only tried two flavors from each, liking one very much and the other a whole lot less from both.

Haagen Dazs ice creams taste *finer*. They're probably fattier, I'm guessing. Sometimes I feel like they hit you over the head with richness, so I have to be in the right mood. 90% of B&J flavors are dud, but the better ones are classic (Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia, and actually their plain vanilla).

I'm on the record as saying that Ben and Jerry's chocolate flavours = tasty, vanilla flavours = bland and taste like actual ice.

iirc ben and jerry's has the highest butterfat content of any mass-produced ice cream

Guar Gum is what gives B&J's (and most ice-creams) that kind of chewy texture.

HD pralines and cream is my go-to, even if their social media is apolitical

Dixon's Milk Ices, not sure if they are on social media or even use the apostrophe they are a local million quid company and not on the nasdaq. My son used to pretend he enjoyed going to football matches when all he was really doing was steering me towards their parlour near the stadium.

I haven’t had any ice cream but Blue Bell ice cream sandwiches in years. They’re fine but it’s hard to fuck up an ice cream sandwich.

imo Ben & Jerry's panders hard to the common idea that if a little is good, then a lot is better, and 'too much' just doesn't exist, so that all their ice cream flavors suffer from an overabundance of gloppy additions. The Häagen-Dazs approach is simpler; they just ramp up the butterfat content to a high pitch and let it do the talking.

I thought I had noted that I had attended a webinar on the asylum seeking process in the UK that was sponsored by Ben & Jerry's a couple of years back. Not seeing it on this thread but I thought the existence of it gave the firm some kudos I hadn't previously associated with it. I'm semi aware of the DP process in Ireland which this seemed a close parallel to and I hadn't been aware of its existence before. DP is a travesty, especially when the Ukrainioans got a better deal far more immediately so sad to hear UK has something similar. But hostile environment probably going to amount to that.

during the last heatwave one day all the ice cream was sold out at the Onestop apart from HD salted caramel of which there was plenty. And then I found out why.

I got a tub of HD Pina Colada ice cream and had to show superhuman levels of restraint in not eating it all in a single sitting.

if anything far too sickly sweet for my palette. My preference is for the posh dairy ice cream from local farms or just the Mr Softy gloop from dodgy ice cream vans.

HD is gross. I like the density of B&J.

I'm currently strung out on B&J Vanilla Caramel Fudge (though also anonymous vanilla at local Creamery & Coffee).

their strawberry cheesecake is ok, not liked much else from them

b&j but mostly for the flavors that have soft cookie crumbles in them rather than lots of hard chunks of stuff. the smores one, the oatmeal cookie one, the mudslide one, etc
