I was just thinking that I've never had a lobster roll, either. But then I was vegetarian for 8 years. Looks pretty fucking tasty, if you ask me.

What is Guinness Record for most expensive sandwich ever? There was all manner of fuss in the media about Kobe beef burgers a couple years back, but they have relatively affordable versions at places now, if I'm not mistaken.

Jordan, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

I had my lobster sandwich (it looked like the one with the fries and the lemon, above) in Bodega Bay, CA, an hour or so north of San Francisco, at a oceanshide shack in the middle of nowhere.

Another sandwich someone else had in Bodega Bay:

http://www.sweetnapa.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/CIMG6201.JPG
Oregon Shrimp Sandwich. AMAZING. I don’t think that Chad and I will ever stop talking about this sandwich. The shrimp were so velvety, and made just a touch creamier with mayonnaise and a little crunchy from some celery, but the masterstroke was the Portugeuse cheese melted on top, which was also just a little chewy and caramelized on the edges in the best way. This is definitely in the pantheon of perfect sandwiches.

The waitress said that their ham and cheese sandwich is made in a similar way, so get that if this isn’t on the menu. She said that the cheese is Portugal’s oldest and named it quickly, but I don’t remember it and will have to do some research.

Eazy, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

sexyDancer, Friday, 15 February 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

Then, the DJ took his sandwich to China Wok (no idea which one, and quite frankly, does it really matter?), where he was allowed to sauté his own order of General Tso's chicken (apparently, he used to work there), which was placed piping hot on top of the steak, peppers, and onions. If you're following along at home, here's where the instructions get a little crazy:

Get 3 or 4 raw crab rangoons, remove the cheese and spread on the inside of the top half of the bun

I want these two:

Hot Lobster Roll
Abbot’s Lobster in the Rough, Noank, Connecticut
The best way to get to Abbott’s is by boat -- float in, tie up, and order the classic, made with a quarter pound of meat, melted butter, and not a drop of mayo. Get a table out on the dock. (117 Pearl Street; 860-536-7719)

Maple-Barbecue Pulled Pork
Vermont Country Deli, Brattleboro, Vermont
Bunch of northerners making pulled pork? Damn straight. Two words: Maple. Syrup. (436 Western Avenue; 802-257-9254)

Eazy, Thursday, 21 February 2008 23:13 (seventeen years ago)

Pork sandwich at Paseo (Seattle, by the zoo) really is one of the best damn sandwiches I've ever had in my life. Doesn't cost much neither.

Speaking of General Tso's Chicken, cheap sandwich = $0.75 supermarket roll ($0.99 if yr fancy), plus about two bucks worth of gnarly deli Chinese for the insides part. Sometimes, they even have little hot sauce packs to top it off.

the only sandwich here that looks good is the steak one and that's cos it's a steak with crinkle-cut chips. maybe this stuff is un-photogenic, i don't know, some of the descriptions are mouth watering.

that's what i mean, it looks anaemic but i'm sure it's completely fit as. is there something about them that makes them look rubbish in photos? (lack of taste-a-vision i spose but still.)

or something, Friday, 22 February 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

the only thing that keeps me from loving lobster roll is the mayo. otherwise, perfection.

get bent, Friday, 22 February 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

food photography is either bad or really, really glossy and annoying and food-pornish. no one has yet discovered the correct way to take pictures of food.

adam, Friday, 22 February 2008 00:03 (seventeen years ago)

duck po boy omg.

Jordan, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

Tomorrow may be oyster po-boy day.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

see, a lot of these i wldn't even really consider sandwiches somehow, esp if they involve cooked, warm food. or lobster. or BLTs. or smoked meat. or grilled cheese. they're more like, i don't know, a dish or a specialty. something i maybe wldn't make at home anyway.
versus
all the stupid slapped-together sandwiches i could make at home with even better bread & ingredients but which cost $8-$12 and ooh you get a side salad or fries. and then they know we're on to them, so they offer a bunch of sandwiches with 'weird' components when really they are not that weird at all or interesting and the whole concept is totally transparent to the point where it all just turns around on you and you know you're making way too big a deal out of sandwiches

rrrobyn, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

one of my newer irrational dislikes is for lunch places

rrrobyn, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

rrrobyn, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:26 (seventeen years ago)

rrrobyn, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:28 (seventeen years ago)

I was thinking that if the list was in North America and not the USA they would include Schwartz's.

Eazy, Friday, 22 February 2008 03:28 (seventeen years ago)

also BLTs and grilled cheese and smoked meat aren't usually considered expensive sandwiches!
