Larenz Tate(fresh off O-Dog) starred as a basically good kid growing up in the hood with a loving, strong but slightly neurotic single mother and maybe some sisters or something. Honestly it was my first time seeing something approximating real black people on television in a dramatic setting, and there was a bit of nu-nationalist wish fulfillment mixed in that made it feel fresh and forward thinking(the mom eventually worked at a community food co-op). It wasn't the funniest thing ever but leaned more on drama as a rule so no harm done. I think the bald dude from Moesha was in it but I'm trying not to peek at the imdb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108936/#comment . Anyone else remember it? It almost seemed a gift from the fox network in the wake of the riots, anyway it got cancelled pretty quickly iirc.

i remember watching this, kids at school talked about it a lot so i watched it. I remember everyone being excited about the episode where andre gets whooped.
i have no idea if i thought it was 'good' or 'bad' in some, like, objective art piece kinda way. i know that a combo of peer pressure and interest in the setting of the rap music i was into at the time combined = 'good show' that i wanted to watch. Wasn't this cancelled midway through the first season? some bullshit
