The demonisation of the teenage state

Why is the media obsessed with demonising the adolescent? There is a truism "we were all young once", yet media depiction of everyone between the ages of thirteen and nineteen (or maybe not even teenage, perhaps make that 13-25) is such that it appears that all journos came into the world fully-formed, or somehow magically did the child --> adult transformation in a trice.

If it's not teenagers drinking on the streets and causing trouble, it's blaming teens themselves for the recent phase of suicides in Bridgend "Oh, it must be coz they socialise online, that'll be why they go ga-ga and top themselves".

It's hypocritical, it's non-sensical, yet it goes on and on. Why?

Because teenagers are either annoying or scary and slagging them off sells papers?

Also didn't we do this about three days ago?

Because they're middle aged people broadcasting or writing for a predominantly middle aged audience currently and coincidentally shitting it over the credit crunch and need some comparative reassurance?

Also didn't we do this about three days agoat least twice a week every week for the past six years?

teenagers schmeenagers.
It's all drunken fucking adults that trash the joint around my way. I can't even go out socialising at the weekend anymore because of all the dicks, and they're definitely not kids.

It's because adults are subconsciously jealous of teenagers, because they're old now, whereas teenagers are young with everything still new and exciting to them, which is why they want to keep teenagers under control to stop them from having fun.

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient of restraint.

Actually, every time they show teens hanging round street corners, they are always dancing, waving drink bottles, hanging out with/snogging girls, etc. Looks a great time.

In reality, when there are no TV cameras to show off to, it's more sitting on a wall, watching people drive in cars, being bored.

That's it.
