I have never met a person that likes Juno

Do you hang around any 18-year-olds?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 25 February 2008 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

There Will Be Blood = Michael Clayton > NCFOM
Michael > Juno > Atonement

remy bean, Monday, 25 February 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

what was that?

There Will Be Blood = Michael Clayton > NCFOM > Juno +/- Atonement

remy bean, Monday, 25 February 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

exp(-i*Juno/Atonement) = NCFOM^TWBB - 1

caek, Monday, 25 February 2008 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

'most arcane and algebraic system for ranking movies' would be a fascinating thread.

remy bean, Monday, 25 February 2008 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

what's the point of paying attention to these 5 films, exclusive of others? now that all the bets have been won?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 25 February 2008 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

i stumbled into amoeba the other night and the place was packed with high schoolers, and more crowded than i can remember seeing it in a long time, because my gf and i had arrived in the wake of a kimya dawson show. just glad i didn't arrive during it.

omar little, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

mighta bumped into kogan

remy bean, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

whose kimyadawson?

peepee, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

Anti-folk singer/songwriter featured on Juno sndtrk, despised by the heartless.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

"despised by the heartless" is probably the sort of thing she'll call her next album

caek, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

don't encourage her!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

omar little, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

whose pussyhole needs filling?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

There Will be Blood>No Country For Old Men>>>>>Michael Clayton>>>Juno>Atonement

chap, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

dammit I thought that said "filing" for a moment

Noodle Vague, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

None of them are bad films by any means, unusually.

chap, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

I'm heartless, but I don't hate her. Just her music.

Eric H., Monday, 25 February 2008 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

I've only seen "No Country" but I'll rank the others based on how much I want to see them:

There Will Be Blood >>>>>> Juno >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Atonement/Michael Clayton

o. nate, Monday, 25 February 2008 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

michael clayton [ pretty solid, no complaints ] >>>>> atonement [ saves reading the book ] >>>>> no country [ can't remember how this ends, but it started off well... oh yeah now i can: blerg ] >>>>> there will be blood [ retired memes ] >>>>> juno [ worst film of the decade ]

banriquit, Thursday, 19 June 2008 09:06 (seventeen years ago)

Solid is the right word for Clayton. And it made me rewatch The Verdict, which should be enough to win Best Picture in my book.

caek, Thursday, 19 June 2008 09:24 (seventeen years ago)

no country [one of my fav movies of the decade]>>>>>michael clayton [could watch this like 100 times and still like it no more or less-- this is a compliment]>>>>>>>>>>>>>>there will be blood [good, but empty, performances-- but it looked good! also this ending wasn't "explosive" at all]>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>juno [worst film of the decade]

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 09:30 (seventeen years ago)

all in all NCFOM wasn't any more innovative than Juno.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

whatever it was that was thought provoking in that movie, was only so for 10 minutes.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

As usual no one will remember at least two of these films next year.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

it certainly failed to be challenging, in my opinion.

banriquit, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

yeah

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

I would compare No Country For Old Men to Kill Bill 2, a slow moving quirky blood fest that has little replay value.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:01 (seventeen years ago)

I feel like I want to see "Juno" as a result of reading this thread

Tom D., Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:06 (seventeen years ago)

I'd like to see an anti-life film called There Will No Blood For Juno.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:09 (seventeen years ago)

I'd like to see a screenname called Alfred, Lord Custos.

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

Juno is no Incredible Hulk but it has its moments like Life Aquatic or Darjeeling Limited did. Not so much Napolean Dynafail or Lost in Translametion.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

what

banriquit, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

lorax waking and baking

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

here's a quote I found on IMDB when someone asked for anybody to explain the humour in Life Aquatic:

"You're right, you are missing the point, but don't worry about it. The humor in this movie is very subtle, and it seems like only people with certain personalities and tastes really "get" it. I can't really say there are any lines in the movie that I would call "jokes". It's not what is said, but how it is said by the characters that makes the scenes so funny. So, if you don't get it, then you don't get it and you probably never will."

Then SpongeBuddy replied "that is the most pretensious thing i have heard in a really long time.".

Than someone else says "I pity anyone for whom humor has to come in obvious jokes with punchlines."

Than someone else says "It's not really a "laugh out loud" ha ha funny kind of movie, it's more of a "pathetically dry make you want to roll your eyes and forget this dribble of poo was ever made" ha ha funny kind of movie."

Somehow people's preferences on movies seem to differ.
One may like: There Will Be Blood>>Michael Clayton>No Country For Old Men>>Atonement>>Juno
and someone else may life it in the opposite order. Any sort of reasoning of why one movie is better than another just turns into a flame war.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

like* grrr
