the hidden meaning of your desktop image

so most people's desktop background pictures seem to fall into one of these two categories:

1. photo of offspring or family etc
2. photo of aspirational purchase (car, vacation spot, musical instrument)

therefore based on my home and office wallpaper I can inform all of you that I would like to visit Mars in the midst of the terraforming process and Michael Strahan of the SBXII champion NY Giants is my son. How about you?

El Tomboto, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

Mine is a sign that says "Don't die wondering".

work = Ellen Allien's living room (aspirational, cleaner than desk)
home = two-color cartoon figure (??)

My work pic is a picture from my brother's wedding. My home pic is the default Vista background.

I wish I were as clever as Lewis Carroll.

kenan, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

When I was employed, I had a picture of my daughter, Charlotte, on my work computer (and I was still job-eliminated).

At home, I have a picture taken by renowned rock shutterbug Godlis of the No Wave Class of `78 (Lydia Lunch, James Chance, Jim Sclavunos, Anya Philips, etc.) lounging against a parked car in front of CBGB on an endearingly scummy Bowery evening. The hidden meaning is this = New York City sucks now. Remember when it was cool?

Alex in NYC, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

i am constantly searching ebay to buy really fucked up records to play on my really broken record player

Dom Passantino, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

At work, I'm a weird cloud freak?

oh wait - both contain clouds!

StanM, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

i guess the underlying message of it would be "i'd rather be sitting in the sun with this dog than sitting in this cubicle in a windowless office".

chicago kevin, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel I interpret that as meaning you would like to buy a crocodile and use it as your daily transportation.

Bodrick III, Saturday, 1 March 2008 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

I just have one of the standard Windows ones on my laptop - it's a nice low green hill with a very blue sky and mountains barely visible in the right background. It looks a like I remember Sonoma Valley (may in fact be Sonoma or Napa Valley) which is where I proposed to my wife. But I also just have it because it's a soothing image.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

On my mac I just have a current world map whose colors I like - the only message is that I have a terrible visual memory and need to be constantly reminded of world geography in order to have any sense of it.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

seriously it's awful. If I'm not careful I start to picture Turkey as being south from Italy

Brief descriptions: 12 colour pictures of Imperial Russia from the Prokudin-Gorskii collection; a wallpaper of GPS traces in London from openstreetmap.org; a whole heap of B/W pics I took as a teenager, another similar heap of B/W ruined churches from a university project; a couple of Vermeer paintings; a few Scott Pilgrim wallpapers; a latex fetish site wallpaper; an Optic Nerve poster; and a page from the Book of Kells, scanned in from a facsimile edition)
