anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The original Cain story is great. Doesn't the film mess with the ending?

gobemouche, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's get back to the song as it ROCKS. jungjugugjgugjgugjJUNGjgugjgjgJUNGjugjugjugjgug "Mildred Pierce". I would love to see the movie, though.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I just saw the film again this weekend. A great, but what an exercise in martyrdom!

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I only like Joan Crawford when she is in stag movies.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Spooner.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

No really--she was in stag movies, in the 1920s.

To be honest, I haven't seen them.

But Joan Crawford scares me, so I imagine I'd prefer the stag movies to this and her other Hollywood vehicles.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Liked it, but it didn't rate as a masterpiece to me.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

No really--she was in stag movies, in the 1920s.
To be honest, I haven't seen them.

I know she made stag movies, but what does it really have to do with this movie? Not much, except maybe as foil to the corny virtuousness of Mildred Pierce.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry Larcole, I'll stay on topic for now on.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry amateurist -- there was no real reason for me to have been short with you.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

The film. Duh. Classic.

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah the song roXor big time! Always ends up being the closing song on my mixtapes. Tchika-tchika-doom-doom-doom..

This came up in conversation recently so I rewatched a bit of it on FilmStruck.

It's great. I appreciate the insight into what running a diner in the 1940's was like.

The novel was one of my great discoveries of the last decade.
