xpost!

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:29 (seventeen years ago)

Is there a list for managers as well?

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:31 (seventeen years ago)

Lol Campbell more like.

Darren Bent is INSANELY high considering a) there are no other Spurs players in the list b) he is two places above WORLD CUP WINNING CAPTAIN FABIO CANNAVARO and c) David Beckham of all people is only at #44.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:40 (seventeen years ago)

Actually I'm concluding that Dom put Darren Bent in there for a joke.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:42 (seventeen years ago)

15 Sol Campbell Portsmouth £105,188 £5,469,750

The (football) wag (xp)

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:43 (seventeen years ago)

Lowe was paid £210 an episode for the first series while John Le M got £262.

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:45 (seventeen years ago)

beckham gets mad image rights, he's paid much more than that by agreement with the club. maybe doesn't go down as salary.

bent is obviously the jkoke of the list, but lampard in third??!!

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:56 (seventeen years ago)

nigel reo jkoke

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:56 (seventeen years ago)

LOL @ Michael NoGoals Newcastle Utd £107,100 £5,569,200

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

arsenal are the richest club in the country yet none of our/their players make the list. players are all about the love. (i hear theooooo's on minimum wage)

can't help but enjoy that just a little. definitely lol at all those other lols.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

Lampard in third makes sense, he's one of the most senior players at the most ostentatiously wealthy club in the world.

Speaking of which, I bet someone at Chelsea is forwarding this list to Lionel Messi's agent as we speak.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:11 (seventeen years ago)

Lampard is officially #23 in the list, his pie allowance raises him to an artificially high position.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:12 (seventeen years ago)

lampard is fat lol

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:15 (seventeen years ago)

I'd received a stern letter informing me that someone was legally obliged to make that joke on this thread.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:17 (seventeen years ago)

drogba gets paid less than shevchenko in chelsea. no wonder he wants to leave

ken c, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:18 (seventeen years ago)

50-100 would probably be more lolsome, what with lucas neill and the like.

darren bent though, jesus.

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:18 (seventeen years ago)

pauleta on 75k seems pretty risible given that no one outside of france would touch him with a bargepole. is he even that good over there, i thought psg were battling relegation or something

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:21 (seventeen years ago)

He's one of those Trezeguet-like players, utterly irredemably shit yet scores tons of goals

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:23 (seventeen years ago)

... tho at least Trezeguet scores against good teams occasionally

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:24 (seventeen years ago)

How come Ronaldo, Gerrard and Henry are all paid exactly the same amount? Do they share an agent?

I wonder who the highest-paid player at Goodison is? Back in the old days, it was Ronnie Goodlass (£36.40) but he used to lose half of that to Bruce Rioch at dominoes.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:26 (seventeen years ago)

must be johnson or yakubu? until arteta gets to the table

oh god it's probably 60k phil neville though

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:29 (seventeen years ago)

Until 2005-06, it was Big Dunc, I believe. Somewhere around £35-40k. Astonishing for a man barely able to run in his last two seasons for Everton.

But, yeah, Howard and Neville could well have been earning the big bucks at OT and probably didn't take much of a pay cut.

I can't recall if Yak's £90k fine was couched in terms of weekly earnings (i.e. two weeks?).

Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:36 (seventeen years ago)

(Apparently AJ became EFC's top-earner upon signing in 2006 - £38k/wk).

Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:41 (seventeen years ago)

no way is yakubu on 90k, that's almost a full bent!

xpost i think neville is on 60k

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

lol phil neville is ugly

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

how much were/are you paying Gravesen - he was reportedly on £40k when he signed for Celtic?

ailsa, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:45 (seventeen years ago)

Neville was apparently on a mere £28k at OT and EFC* matched that. Not sure about Tommy G - took a pay-cut to move from Real to Celtic so perhaps he's on a bit less again back at Goodison.

(* - almost used the Royal Blue "we" there but it seems particularly daft when talking about players' wages)

Michael Jones, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:50 (seventeen years ago)

I thought Darren Bent rejected a supposedly higher wage from West Ham to join Spurs? What exactly must West Ham have been offering?

I wonder who the highest paid Arsenal player actually is? Jens Lehmann or Gallas I assume?

Surprised Maldini isn't up there as well.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

42 Pedro Pauleta Paris SG £73,440 £3,818,880

Not bad for a side doing about as well as Reading.

onimo, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:10 (seventeen years ago)

oh sorry he's already been mentioned by r|t|c

onimo, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

The thread is worth it (say £28k a week) just for Mike's dominoes line. (Come to think of it, are those games mentioned in My Father and Otehr Working-Class Football Heroes? There is a funny line in that book about the players' wives forming a perfect midfield in the players' lounge, but perhaps that's a different era again.) Not to mention the Royal Blue We (not to be confused with the waff druggy Glaswegian chancers who mercifully split up as soon as gullible Swedes started acclaiming them).

But Bent's appearance *is* a joke. You've all started talking like it isn't. I'm sure I heard not long ago that Keane was the highest paid at Tottenham, on £40k and of course they'll be breakatoving the bankatov for Berbatov if he wants them to. Bent is a bit of a Bent herring amid that scenario, and ought to be napping offside with the fishes.

the pinefox, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:19 (seventeen years ago)

be fair- we all acknowledge wholeheartedly bent's appearance, (let alone placing in the top 20) as a joke of the highest degree.

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:22 (seventeen years ago)

yeah but i want to believe that spurs are that stupid.

they were stupid enough to pay the same as Henry for him, so it's not that far-fetched that they might may him almost as much.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:27 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i seem to remember the papers saying west ham were offering daz bent a 70-odd wedge before he came out with that noble quote?

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:27 (seventeen years ago)

tbh la bent aside this list is kind of meaningless when it doesnt take into account random elano types in russia who are on like 4 grand a week on paper with quarter of a million pound bonuses in their offshore account if they win the derby or sweep the owner's front yard or whatever

r|t|c, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:37 (seventeen years ago)

be fair to 'em though, these oligarchs have pretty big front yards

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 6 March 2008 12:44 (seventeen years ago)

Yakubu's agent claims he's on 45k a week but it's more like 30.

blueski, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:13 (seventeen years ago)

The ignominy of it

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:20 (seventeen years ago)

Do you mean joke as in "Dom's playing a fun jape" or "Spurs are dumb-asses"?

lol @ blueski :)

onimo, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:23 (seventeen years ago)

got it the wrong way round tho. DAMN.

blueski, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:26 (seventeen years ago)

I don't believe that Bent is paid more than Keane or Berbatov, or others for that matter.

the pinefox, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:27 (seventeen years ago)

lol how come soccer players dont get more i thought this was the most popular sport in the world - arod gets like $25m a year

jhøshea, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:39 (seventeen years ago)

Who is Arod?

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:40 (seventeen years ago)

These wages are just basic, Rodriguez is on $21.6 including bonuses, right?

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:44 (seventeen years ago)

A-Rod = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Rodriguez

I keep thinking people are talking about Andy Roddick though.

ailsa, Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

Never heard of him. My mum likes baseball though.

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

spurs are definitely paying bent more than berbatov and keane.

obviously berbatov will require a massive rise this summer though.

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 14:10 (seventeen years ago)

Which he will get when he joins Man Utd

Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

And presumably the people running MLB are totally screwing him on image rights and the like...

Stone Monkey, Thursday, 6 March 2008 14:16 (seventeen years ago)

Don't really think Berbatov has the right image for the MLB anyway, unless baseball fans like dudes that look like SS Officers.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 6 March 2008 14:17 (seventeen years ago)

re: berbatov to united

then we can spend his current wages on bench warmer saha. joy.

darraghmac, Thursday, 6 March 2008 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

They play music at baseball, right? If they get some moody synthesiser shit going on they can just turn his entire career into one long tribute to the bits in Scarface where Tony Montana looks at people who are trying to fuck his sister.

That mong guy that's shit, Thursday, 6 March 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)
