Crazy sux so much and smart is overvalued. If you aren't allergic to crazy by now then you have some serious life lessons on the way. No shit, truth bomb.

"not crazy" == "boring"

elmo argonaut, Saturday, 8 March 2008 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

there are plenty of smart, attractive people who are completely dead inside.

elmo argonaut, Saturday, 8 March 2008 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

yep

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 8 March 2008 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

elmo argonaut, Saturday, 8 March 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

I think I am "dead inside" because I can't remember the last time I saw someone I would describe as "hot".

Are you a eunuch?

libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:00 (seventeen years ago)

i think there should be a rule that guys should not be allowed to hate on a girl for "crazy" if they are crazy themselves, which is usually the case.

No. Maybe my hormones are out of wack, but I mean, I've seen "cute", purty, and stuff, but "hot"-- I don't even know what that means anymore

libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:04 (seventeen years ago)

I guess the term "hot" is for me loaded with caricature of Pamela Anderson stuff or some such nonsense. Not to denigrate her, but I guess I'm indicting the whole concept of "hot".

Would rather talk "beautiful".

dell, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:05 (seventeen years ago)

"beautiful" is fraught with all kinds of emotional weight though. even if referring to a stranger. 'beautiful' = i'd like to get to know you.

"hot" is useful in denoting the pure physicality of the attraction. 'hot' = i'd like to bone you.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

"Hot" means that yr loins rise in temp a few degrees and you start imagining the different ways yr loins both could be touching or whatevs.

libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:09 (seventeen years ago)

xpost?
Yeah, I guess it comes down to personal idiosyncrasies or something...but even in the case of intense pure physicality of attraction I would not label said person as being "hot". Rather, I'd be like, "oh, we have some intense connection going on"?

If I'm walking down the street and see some random person that catches my fancy, I invariably think, wow, she's really cute, or wow, some people are so beautiful.

dell, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:13 (seventeen years ago)

What about cute? HERE WE GO AGAIN

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

yeah 'hot' has an unsavoryness to it, i prefer cute. but THE DISCOURSE IS SET.

When I saw the thread title I thought it meant I could have two for myself, not for a girlfriend.

I'm smart and not crazy, and it seems like a good way to be.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:47 (seventeen years ago)

lol it's for partner

k3vin k., Thursday, 6 April 2017 16:39 (eight years ago)

well then I pick "smart" and "hot" because everyone is already crazy

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Thursday, 6 April 2017 16:41 (eight years ago)

just realizing how horrible that makes my initial answer look lol. xxpost

I don't require my partner to be an intellectual but "not being a cinderblockhead" is a prerequisite. the penultimate girl I dated was however both smart and crazy and a terrible person, whereas the last one was attractive but kind of dumb and that didn't work out.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 6 April 2017 16:43 (eight years ago)

otm man can't dodge crazy xp

k3vin k., Thursday, 6 April 2017 16:43 (eight years ago)

tho it was more due to just organically not being a good fit than anything (you'd think someone who posts memes saying they want a man who loves them but "loves God more" wouldn't want to date a guy with a Baphomet-pentagram tattoo but ymmv). xpost

Neanderthal, Thursday, 6 April 2017 16:45 (eight years ago)

I guess my answer would be pretty much the same for myself as it is for a partner. My days of worrying about whether people find me 'hot' are in the past. As long as I'm hovering somewhere just over the median on the Smart-o-Meter and just under the median on the Crazy-o-Meter, I'm cool.

emil.y, Thursday, 6 April 2017 16:51 (eight years ago)

i have an ex that was smart and hot (and a sociopath), an ex that was smart and not-crazy (but not hot), and an ex that was hot and not-crazy (not stupid, but not as smart as the other two, or me tbrr) -- the smart and not-crazy one is the one I have the most regrets about and think, "hey, the next time I feel like dating, I should look for a guy like him."

totally separate, though being good in bed can go a long way to making up for not being "hot" per se -- at least that's what a lot of guys I've had sex with have told me

Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Thursday, 6 April 2017 17:25 (eight years ago)

I've thought for some time that my not-crazy levels were low enough to disqualify me from participation in relationships and yet I persist. I am at least upfront about it.

Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Thursday, 6 April 2017 17:27 (eight years ago)

wrt partners, I'm at the point where Iall three of the criteria itt are subordinate to adaptability, acceptance, and conflict resolution skills.

Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Thursday, 6 April 2017 17:31 (eight years ago)

in other words, willingness to put up with you?

sarahell, Thursday, 6 April 2017 17:33 (eight years ago)

Can you even imagine the effort involved in that endeavor?

Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Thursday, 6 April 2017 17:38 (eight years ago)

But nah, it's a two-way street, and it's as much about one's willingness to put up with oneself.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 6 April 2017 21:15 (eight years ago)

Is the question stating that people only come in two of these three flavours (patently not so) or is the crucial aspect here the "you can have" limitation and therefore really a question about the respondent

virginity simple (darraghmac), Thursday, 6 April 2017 21:18 (eight years ago)

true triple constraint means you can only have certain amounts of all three

Not to be that guy but I think one thing that's changed is referring to people as "crazy" is something I now avoid.

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 19 April 2023 10:16 (two years ago)

True. Reading back through the thread there is also a discussion about unpacking the semantics of the word "hot" too. But yeah, reading through it again makes me realise how we've moved on since people were comfortable using words like "dumb" to describe others

Rolling Coastal Black Country New Roads (dog latin), Wednesday, 19 April 2023 10:21 (two years ago)

Smart, hot, and mellow, then?

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 19 April 2023 10:22 (two years ago)

Mellow does increase in importance as you get older I think.

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 19 April 2023 10:24 (two years ago)

counting the ways this thread is crazy, dumb and munting would be way too much effort tbh

imago, Wednesday, 19 April 2023 10:25 (two years ago)

But if we're to stick to "not crazy" for the sake of the thread starter, I wonder how far these go. Is "not hot" just 'not classically attractive' or 'physically repulsive'?

Is 'crazy' defined as "suffers from depression and/or other mental health issues but overall a good person", or "abusive/controlling/awful person etc"

Is "smart" booksmart or streetsmart?

Rolling Coastal Black Country New Roads (dog latin), Wednesday, 19 April 2023 10:27 (two years ago)

Fair! All three can be read in myriad ways.
