I don't think there's a dedicated thread on that but I know there's another NH thread where that concept came up.

Apparently Joran Van Der Sloot, the guy who first admitted to killing her to an undercover journalist and then retracted his story is now wanted for possibly killing another girl in Peru. Latest rumour is that his body's been found.
― StanM, Thursday, 3 June 2010 11:46 (fifteen years ago)
i'm baffled he wasn't held after his admission of guilt for the first murder. anyway, good riddance to him.
― akm, Thursday, 3 June 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)
Lack of evidence. And his "wait, it was just a joke" after that journalist released the footage somehow invalidated his admission, I don't know how it works. :-/
― StanM, Thursday, 3 June 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)
Now he's supposedly arrested in Chili

This is a pretty amazing fail: the FBI, the US State Dept, the Aruban govt were all in on this JvdS's extortion attempts and were unable to detain him before he went to Peru:

Last month, the FBI office in Birmingham, Alabama, set up a meeting in Aruba between Van der Sloot and a person, a civilian, who told the killer he would pay him $250,000 for information about where Natalee Holloway's body was. Now, the meeting was videotaped by the feds, and Van der Sloot accepted $10,000 in cash during the meeting. Also, the thug apparently incriminated himself during the discussion.
THAT's their whole extortion case?
"Want some free money?""Sure!""You'll get it if you tell us where x is. You do know, don't you?""Sure!""OK, here's 10,000.""Thanks!" (*runs away before they want actual info*)

Police say Van der Sloot smashed in the face of Lima business student Stephany Flores, whom he met playing poker at a casino, after taking her to his hotel room on May 30. They say he then strangled her, threw her to the floor, emptied her wallet.
If convicted on the murder and robbery charges, Van der Sloot would be sentenced to between 15 and 35 years in prison, court spokesman Luis Gallardo told The Associated Press.
Wait - 15 years? Uh - that seems kinda light, doesn't it?!
― Becky Facelift, Friday, 11 June 2010 17:37 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i kinda suspect he won't last 15 months in a peru prison

no he pointed to a house that he said his dad buried her in the foundation of...
except...
that house was not under construction and had been standing for years prior to holloway's murder.
for the peruvian murder, his confession was that he went out to get food/drink at the convenince store next door to the hotel and when he came back she had been using his computer and googled his info and he became incensed and attacked her.
except.....
there's no footage of him leaving the hotel room or lobby.
basically this dude is incapable of telling the truth?

Dudes, have you checked out how bad that prison is?
I confess I'm a bit obsessed with this case. Been watching youtube clips. Now I did not need to see the body of the girl (Flores). That was just sad. :-(
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Thursday, 17 June 2010 10:54 (fifteen years ago)
So you've read a ton of stuff on the case? What do you think actually happened? I'm curious what someone who has sifted through everything thinks (I've only read the headlines and the Radar piece, really, but I've found the whole thing really interesting).
― Becky Facelift, Thursday, 17 June 2010 12:31 (fifteen years ago)
shocking revelation here
Joran van der Sloot has a low tolerance for frustration and "doesn't value the female role," according to excerpts from a psychological report given to a judge Monday.

Becky, honestly, I think he just flew into a rage with the last girl. He was apparently penniless and, as a result, hungry. Probably wanted to take money from her. She resisted and he killed her into a fit of fury (?). I highly doubt he has killed others, although others like to think so. With Holloway? Probably the same. I think he has a really bad temper. But then daddy was there to clean the mess up and "convince" officials to look the other way. And his dad was a lawyer, so he knew what the best way was to talk himself out of it. Also, there wasn't (and still isn't) a body. Now he'll sadly have to deal with this murder in a scummy prison.
Apparently several girls have offered to marry him and some(one) offered to have his baby. I can understand the attraction: cute and dangerous (in a safe, behind bars, kind of way). And he's notorious/famous.
But honestly, we'll probably never know as he only knows the exact truth and he's a chronic liar.
Apparently the security camera has "disappeared" and the hotel owners are prohibited to talk (to the press). WHic of course is strange. Some claim the FBI is involved.
