Chums: Classic Or Dud

It *must* have topped twenty minutes last week. SURELY NOBODY LIKES IT. Are they keeping it going for a bet? Worst guest ever: Cheater Halliwell. Even more excruciating now Louise has to be on it every week. And that picture of Tom Jones and the cue cards - JESUS MAKE IT STOP.

Tom, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Big Dud. Used to be intermittently amusing, but is now dull as all dullness. SM:TV is verging on bad as a whole at the moment now A+D aren't there and 'where's my career gone?' Louise is on it every week. That woman has the charisma of dead haddock. OK, it is still better than that godawful mess on BBC1 that's on at the same time but for all our sakes BRING BACK ANT AND DEC NOW!

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Liked it once. Hardly watch it now, though.

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The whole of SM:TV = DDDDDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! Ant & Dec = even more dud than Formula 1.

DG, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You don't even like Wonkey Donkey?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And does that include Sabrina the Teenage Witch, DG? Cuz Salem rocks...

And the last Challenge Ant I saw (two weeks ago, I think) was hilarious — I think because the format is coming to pieces, and they;re just fucking about...)

mark s, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sabrina doesn't count, she's on *normal* CITV. I'm sorry, I just CAN NOT STAND Ant & Dec.

DG, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wonkey donkey? if only US shows had names like that..Friends? i'll take the Donkey show

kevin enas, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They've ditched Sabrina for Clueless: The Series, though (from whence my Greasehate). And Cat The Dog is poor, too. And Digimon is awful.

Eat My Goal provides reliable amusement as lead-footed (and brained) H Steps cannons another shot into the wall. Also Cat and Brian Connelly have a certain amount of chemistry.

There is crack in the water at DG Towers, though: Ant & Dec are marvellous. Role models, even, except they're younger than me.

Tom, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Balls. There's no crack here, I can't afford it. For saying Ant & Dec are great you are henceforth to be known as Pooing Ewing.

DG, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I adore Ant & Dec, I would marry them both if I could.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ant & dec are the greatest humans that ever lived. surely everyone knows that?

i like chums even though its not really very good. but the music rules. i wish the chums music was released as a single. i would buy that.

gareth, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, that's it DG! GET READY TO RUMBLE!

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I can be passed the pedant conch for a sec, it's surely and gloriously "RHUMBLE"

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

:—0

mark s, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I always wonder...what if Ant or Dec decided to go solo?...The world would surely seem a very strange and empty place if that happened!...Chums had gone on way too long, rather like Friends.

james e l, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ant & Dec are crap. They are. THEY ARE. And always have been. And always shall be.

DG, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

INFIDEL!

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Time to impeach the moderator, I think.

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A quick summary of Ant & Dec: Byker Grove = rubbish Pop Career = rubbish SM:TV = rubbish That Wispa advert they did = rubbish In fact, everything they've ever done = rubbish. I do not understand their appeal at all.

DG, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Closer and closer you get to the summit of Mount Crack. Their pop career was GRATE! "Let's Get Ready To Rhumble" is a powerful CALL TO ARMS and their cover of "Stepping Stone" sounds like The Fall!

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You're just being 'ironic' now, I swear. If I'm on crack, then you = off your tits on the strongest acid imaginable. Perhaps that's the only way to make SM:TV bearable?

DG, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It must be admitted I generally watch SMTV under the influence of powerful hangover pheromones.

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pah! I knew it! You can't think it's good watching it with a clear head.

DG, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I do. I always have a clear head. Always. Test me.

mark s, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Then you're mad. Or lying. Or both.

DG, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ant and Dec's new prime time Saturday evening show is v. v. bad. It includes a parody of 'Cheers' that's even more excrutiating than 'Chums'...

Andrew L, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst Chums was the fifteen hour torture session version with one time Hollywood star Lee Evans who kept on ad libbing stretching the thing out into some sort of post modern Fassbinder movie parody. Without the exciting bits.

Pete, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw Chums for the very first time today. It's fucking... *insane*. Fucking Cat fucking Deeley, fucking Louise fucking Redknapp fucking nee Nurding, fucking the worst Panto you've never seen... IT'S SHITE!

Ant & Dec though, they used to have an early evening Ch4 show which was fabtastic. Now they've desended into Saturday night, 'ironic' game-show HELL.

DavidM, Saturday, 16 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well obviously Chums has become a bit rubbish. But it could have been marvelous - Ant and Dec cutting off the mayfly popstarz with put downs that they can't possibly come back at because the PJ and Duncan are the FUTURE OF TV. As well as the present.

DG: put that in your pipe and snort it. Mwah ha ha ha!

Magnus, Sunday, 17 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello Magnus. Quite frankly I would love to grind Ant & Dec up and smoke them.

DG, Sunday, 17 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ANT AND DEC ARE BACK. HURRAH!

Richard Tunnicliffe, Saturday, 23 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
hi i love ant and dec i think they are truly talented, dec is my fave i like ant too.

Abby Stansfield, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Look at me up above saying Clueless and Digimon were awful - how little did I know that worse would soon be to come with MY PARENTS ARE ALIENS.

Tom, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

still beats the Saturday Show though. Dani Behr as kids presenter, wtf?

jel, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BBC people have been saying re. Saturday Show, "Ah yes but remember SMTV Live was awful at first" which doesn't to me show much confidence in their radical new programme.

Come on DG surely you must admit Joe Mace is worse than either Ant or Dec.

Tom, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

re Dani:

"Mummy, who's the scary old lady in Top Shop gear?"

suzy, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Joe Mace? I are not knowing who he is, as I did not see the Saturday Show. However - even if he is the worst human being ever that doesn't make Ant 'n' Dec any less rubbish, with their annoying cheeky chappy Geordie faces.

DG, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ant dec and smtv live fucking rock ,ant dec and cat are the best people in the world , i fancy the arse off ant and dec.

mrs. ant and dec, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are you ant or dec?

jel, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
I have just watched CD:UK for the first time in ages (why is it on on Sunday anyway? What's going on?) and I just wanted somewhere to say that that fake-Cat-Deeley-a-like Holly person is the worst presenter I have ever seen on telly. Ever.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 14 August 2005 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

However, the whole show has been redeemed by McFly covering "Pinball Wizard" (the only other good bit was Justin Hawkins doing "This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us").

Music is shit. Kids TV is shit. I am a nasty old curmudgeon, bah, it wasn't like this in my day etc etc.
