I see Kevorkian as a flawed crusader, similar to many other such crusading types, like Margaret Sanger f'rinstance. In her case, she coupled her avidity for birth control with a similar avidity for eugenics; a flawed allegience which does not negate the value of her more positive contributions.
Kevorkian latched onto the right-to-die for those who were in a position where the alternative to a hastened, but humane, death was a prolonged and pointless agony. His major problem was one of poor judgement in pursuit of this goal, promoted by the sort of blindness to the consequences of his actions that often afflicts such crusaders. For one thing, he didn't really know how to kill people humanely, even though that was his intention.
