Prince and house

Lately I've been thinking, what is/was Prince's relationship to house music? While in the 80s he released records that have a clear proto-house feel ("Controversy", most of 1999, etc), or, later on, tunes that seem to have been influenced by house ("Housequake", "Batdance", the 12" mix of "Glam Slam", etc), [i)Emancipation[/i] is the only album of his I've heard with a couple of straightforward house tunes. (I'm not counting stuff like the house mix of "Thieves in the Temple", because they were done by outside remixers.) Has he ever talked about his relationship to house music? Could it be that in the 80s he merely travelled a parallel path with house, but his muso attitudes and background in live music stopped him from really embracing it?

I think the relationship is, that Prince owns a house.
