matt and latham, thank you! i was on a bit of a half-assed ilx hiatus for a while, and then i had a meltdown a few weeks ago and decided to stop painting, gave away everything for free (which started from a pouty egocentric place and ended up feeling really good and reminded me of how much support i really have in so many ways), decided i would just be taking a quick hiatus from painting and then just started painting again a few days ago. what can i say? i think the genocide and the election and ~everything~ adds up to so much grief and emotional weirdness, the best we (or at least i) can do is to just try to keep going and remind ourselves of what we are apparently living for, reasons to keep living, etc. it seems hopeless sometimes but art speaks a language that is outside of political control and that's why it's important to always keep that flame burning hot

I haven't regularly since, ugh, high school. I do a lot more pencil drawing - by which I mean that I'll draw every day for a month and then do nothing for three months. Lately I only seem to pick up a pencil or crayon when it's do monster pictures with my niece and nephew. That's something, anyway.

Painting is so fun though. I just need to get in a habit.

it’s just a sidenote in a series of horrible life disasters right now, but i posted that song for literally about 2-3 minutes before my whole world came crashing down, partly as a result of posting that fucking song! long story and i can’t/won’t get into it online (i’m trying to end my lifetime of oversharing, even though i’m arguably doing it right now), but i made a mistake in putting it up that i had no idea about, wasn’t even thinking about, and i doubt that version of the song will ever see the light of day. the cover is kind of painful to look at now, tbh :-/

it’s an especially nice one with a lot of good imbalances and asymmetries.

i really like the corner mural as a format for you, suits your m.o. (your m.o. aiui = very exploratory work that uses facets of color to create push/pull instead of build mass/roundness)

yes - i’m really sorry to not have let you known. canceling everything at the last second was an agonizing process in and of itself, and then i didn’t have the heart to reach out to individuals who i figured would be attending.

pretty much everything in my life has fallen apart over the last few weeks. i’m doing my best to not fall apart myself (it is the best time and worst time to be sober, lol) and skip the self-destruction. so much of life is just getting yourself to a place of self-contained happiness and fulfillment, and trying to stay there.

i have been there. i have truly been there. please take care of yourself and i've taken note of the new thread title :)

life is still crazy, just moved into a new place, sublease for the summer, lots of odd things about the place but a lot to like as welll, especially an extra room that has been great for painting. i have a lot of free/alone time right now so i expect to be heavily painting for the summer
