SO I was a bit pissed off that Radio Five took off Baker & Kelly Upfront - a programme enjoyed by at least two other people here. So I wrote to them. Here is the BBC's reply.

Thank you for your e-mail.

I am sorry to read how disappointed you are at the withdrawal of 'Baker and Kelly Upfront'.

Bob Shennan, Controller of BBC Radio Five Live has said ; "We're pleased that the programme has received such a warm welcome on its return to Five Live. 'Baker and Kelly Upfront' was commissioned for a 10 week run on the basis that this Saturday morning slot has also, during this football season, carried 10 weeks at a time of other favourites 'Wright and Bright' (which returns on 16 March for the final 10 weeks of the season) and 'Motty's Magic Matches' .

We're constantly reviewing the schedule to make sure we deliver the best for our audience, and hope to be able to bring listeners even more Baker and Kelly Upfront."

It is not yet known if 'Baker & Kelly' is to be recommissioned. Please be assured that your comments have been registered and will be made available to the relevant programme makers and senior management within the corporation.

Thank you for taking the time to contact the BBC.

Regards

Chris would complain too I'm sure - IF HE PAID A LICENCE FEE THE TAX EVADING SCUMBAG.

Jonnie, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Why should he pay? He's hardly ever in the country, being a sex tourist an' all.

DG, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ahem, that is included in my rent. Cheeky get.

I am complaining, however, due to it's clashing with the best bits of soccer AM I have largely neglected them in this run and didn't even know they had been taken off.

Pete could you not use yours and Tom's Top Radio Contacts to do something about this? And besides you only pay a third of the licence fee.

Emma, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm all for the return of Baker and Kelly. Next time, however, if they could avoid scheduling it against Jonathan Ross then I might actually get to hear more than the one programme I did.

THIS WINS THE PRIZE FOR RANDOM IRRELEVANCE BUT I NEED TO KNOW ASAP:

Can you remember any details of a student who sued his/her university because they got a bad degree? Some time in the last few years. Vaguely rings a bell with me.. Pete? Sorry for being rude.

N., Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

RIngs a bell with me too - though not quite sure of the details. The bell it rings is in some sort of arts subject (argument being how can you down grade me when this is all subjective) and I think it might have been Bristol or Durham or one of thoseRussell Group non-Oxbridge places. But exact facts elude me.

Pity poor Stuart Maconie: his 6Music show is on at 9-12 on Saturdays up against Ross on 2, Soccer AM, SMT:V (sans James Redmond) and Baker on London. Listeners = 0.

Pete, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am going to sue ILE for not letting me get any work done.

A girl was sueing her school for not getting her good enough a-levels to get into her selected course at durham, I think. Her predicted grades were somewhat wrong. I think. Can't quite remember.

Well I'm slightly less contrite now I've heard that Baker will be doing the Breakfast show 5 days a week on BBC London from April. WHy it'll be like ten years ago and Morning Edition on Radio 5 all over again (hopefully without Mark Kermode sticking his nose in though).
