I'm probably going to pick "Don't" because I'm realizing it's by far the most underrated.

back that shit up

deeznuts, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

also thats a completely bullshit reason to vote for anything, ya know

deeznuts, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

What? No "Hobo With a Shotgun"?! It's cool, no one would vote for it anyway.

As much as I like "Machete" and am looking forward to seeing the complete film, "Thanksgiving" is just so absolutely brilliant.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

OK, I vote for it because it's the best and most accurate trailer.

Eric H., Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

"Machete" is such pandering bullshit, but, that said, also probably true to grindhouse.

Eric H., Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

Pandering?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:21 (seventeen years ago)

"You'll come home for the holidays....in a bodybag."

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:21 (seventeen years ago)

I love the part where the detective dude runs his finger over where the head was severed and says, "yep...it's blood."

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

'pandering' as in to rodriguez's audience? that seems accurate yet unfair to me.

thanksgiving has by far more quotable lines + burned-into-retina scenes than any of these.

'true to grindhouse' doesnt factor into it for me, because i have no real idea what that is, but its an understandable reason for voting.

deeznuts, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

xp yeah johnny fever that was probably the funniest single movie moment of 2007 for me

deeznuts, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

"Don't" is great because it's clearly giving off the impression of some sort of Bava import, only the distributors are trying to hide the fact that it's either way flowery and/or in a foreign language, and the only way they can do so is to edit the hell out of the footage.

Eric H., Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

"Thanksgiving" is great too. As is Rob Zombie's. It's "Machete" that bugs me.

Eric H., Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

actual favorite: Maiden of Death, one of the SXSW submissions

But it could just be that I have far more affection for '70s horror sleaze than '70s action sleaze.

Eric H., Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

anyone who doesnt vote "thanksgiving" is a fucking a-hole

jhøshea, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

After re-watching "Don't" I have to say that it's way up there (I didn't remember it being so good).

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

anyone who doesnt vote "thanksgiving" is a fucking a-hole

Wow, you really have a way with hyperbole, Pats-picker.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

the V.O. for Thanksgiving is the best part...

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Sunday, 16 March 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

The use of the music from "Creepshow" is my favorite part of Thanksgiving, and the over-the-line final shot.

Eric H., Sunday, 16 March 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

ROCK HARDY IS THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD EVER

jhøshea, Sunday, 16 March 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

I really wanted to see Grindhouse in the theater w/ the trailers and everything and was bummed when I missed it and they ended up splitting up the 2 movies for DVD release w/o most of the trailers (except Machete on it). Maybe I'll hold out renting or buying it until the full deluxe Grindhouse DVD comes out.

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 16 March 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

Thanksgiving

"It's blood."

"Son of a bitch!"

latebloomer, Sunday, 16 March 2008 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

Biehn's "It's blood" moment is great, but Don't wins the prize. Notice that every single scene has different actors? Made like the trailer was pasted together from several tedious Brit horror films & mated with american hyperbole to try and sucker the audience.

zaxxon25, Monday, 17 March 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

The only trailer I have seen is the one for Machete, so it must be the best.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

don't

omar little, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

i like the way the VO says "don't" in a shrimpy voice at the end of "don't"

s1ocki, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

It's clearly between Don't and Thanksgiving. The latter's a little more complete so I think it gets the nod.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

i was just listening to an interview with eli roth today where he was doing the lines from thanksgiving's VO (which he did himself)... pretty funny stuff. "white meat... dark meat... all will be served."

s1ocki, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 00:44 (seventeen years ago)

I vote Thanksgiving. Don't is great too. The Rob Zombie one was far and away the worst.

circa1916, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)

voted for don't

rewatching them, i see that machete has FRANK LAPIDUS in it

abanana, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:34 (seventeen years ago)

don't is a pretty funny "trailer voice guy" joke, but it kinda gets old by the time it's minute and a half is done. voted for thanksgiving.

Jordan, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:36 (seventeen years ago)

"white meat... dark meat... all will be CARVED."

David R., Tuesday, 25 March 2008 02:30 (seventeen years ago)

The use of the music from "Creepshow" is my favorite part of Thanksgiving, and the over-the-line final shot.

What's the final shot showing? I can't make it out on Youtube.

abanana, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 10:51 (seventeen years ago)

A guy having sex with a Turkey, if I remember correctly...

Savannah Smiles, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 11:26 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for "Thanksgiving," maybe purely out of major 80s VHS slasher nostalgia, but I loved "Machete" too -
I mentioned this in the Grindhouse thread, but the best reaction to a movie moment in public I have ever had was seeing Grindhouse at a drive in in National City (South San Diego, close to the border); when the Machete trailer concludes with "They just fucked with the wrong Mexican!"; there was a massive roar - horns honking, people flashing their brights, whooping out their windows - it was awesome.

Savannah Smiles, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 11:29 (seventeen years ago)

"A guy having sex with a Turkey, if I remember correctly..."

A turkey with Eli Roth's head on top!

Frank Lapidus is in Planet Terror too (he's the BBQ guy)!

that is awesome! did watching it at the drive-in enhance the overall experience?

latebloomer, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

it seems like the perfect way to see it

latebloomer, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

I am happy to hear there are still drive-in theaters open somewhere

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

anyway, Thanksgiving for the turkey-fucking shot

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

Christ I was wondering what you guys were talking about with this FRANK LAPIDUS shit like duh that's JEFF FAHEY.

David R., Tuesday, 25 March 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

I've probably mentioned this somewhere before, but my favorite moment in the Thanksgiving trailer is the guy and girl in the car, and the guy is taking the girl's sweater off and she giggles, "Happy Thanksgiving, baby!" Because, you know, Thanksgiving is known for being the sexiest holiday. And for much gift-giving. I dunno, it's subtle, but it cracks me up.

kenan, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

Can't I vote for ACUNA BOYS AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD?

nickalicious, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

That did look like some good-ass mexican food, gotta say.

kenan, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

There's so much subtle wtf-ness in the Thanksgiving trailer, it's really a whole movie's worth in the space of 2 minutes. xp

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

totally!

s1ocki, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:34 (seventeen years ago)

Ok so when do we get the theatrical version on DVD? I don't want the missing reels. Having missing reels is too good a gag. Like in Planet Terror, when everything goes haywire in the middle of the lovin', (you don't get to seeEEEEeeee! haha, teased ya!), and we come back and ALL THE SHIT IS ON FIRE but it couldn't matter less how it got that way.

kenan, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

who knows. it seems like they released those dvds out of contempt. like they were so pissed at tarantino & rodriguez that they tried to make the experience as least grindhousey as possible.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

i agree about the missing reels thing too

s1ocki, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

The missing reel in Planet Terror seems to be part of both the Grindhouse AND non-GH version -- Cinemax has been showing both GH flick in all their uncut glory this month, and the missing reel during the sex scene still happens.

David R., Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah you don't get teh secret of El Rey in either version, right?

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

Actually I can't recall now. . . did I learn the secret of El Rey from the DVD and just forget it haha?!?!?

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I can live with these results, but now I do feel guilty for leaving off the Acuna Bros. ad.

Eric H., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

As well you should.

This. When we saw it in the theater we were laughing ourselves silly at this bit.

100%! (I still vastly preferred 'Planet Terror' to 'Death Proof,' but that's for another thread). That drive-in in particular is a real trip - worth the couple hours jaunt from L.A. for a weird night out! There's always packed trucks of people tailgating, and the concession stand is nuts (menudo, scoops of tuna salad, slices of watermelon)!

I wish I was back in California right now...

Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:10 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

I have now seen them all. Machete is still the best - it looks like a trailer for an actual film, rather than a pastiche of a trailer for an already existing film.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 21 April 2008 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe, but a film I probably wouldn't see.

Eric H., Monday, 21 April 2008 11:57 (seventeen years ago)

I bet you are RASCIST against Mexicans.

If we don't get this and frankly everything else from the original trailer-as-such in the film, what is even the point.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 17:47 (one year ago)

I have no idea how Eli Roth has a career.
