GASSY.

a spin off from the EMERGENCY! thread...

so, it's two days later and my heart has returned to its normal speed and my fever has abatted. but yesterday and this morning i'm plagued with this horrible feeling in my chest - a sharp pain, from usually mild to intense - which feels like i've just got a giant gas bubble trapped in there or something. (i.e. i keep burping occasionally, but they're kind of lame and i can feel something almost blocking them on the way up.) i've been taking pepto bismol (all we have in the house), and it's somewhat helped at relieving the pain but not the problem. has anyone had anything like this before? am i going to die, or do i just need to get one good belch off? i'm still smarting from the cost of the emergency room visit so i'm not looking forward to going -back- to the doctors...

also, the notion of "health information on the internet" is the biggest scam in the free world, when i type in "gas pain" and get articles on colon cancer. thanks a lot you fatalists!

At least find some urgent care spot around there, Jess, if you worried about full hospital costs -- what you describe doesn't sound fun and should be looked at ASAP!

Could be some kind of Gastro-enteritis or gastric flu. Ride it out and keep hydrated. Keep off the spicy foods, if you dehydrate too much you'll need to hit that emergency room for a drip. Healthcare free at the point of provision is a wonderful thing. I am not a medical person so take my advice for what its worth,

actually ed, my visit to the er the other night was for the drip...dehydration from fever.

hey, is it possible to drink -too- much water? the next day, after the hospital, i drank something insane like 150 oz. out of fear (one of those big 64 oz. AM/PM cups). can water give you gas?

this kinda reminds me of nitsuh's comment about looking down and going "hey, i have a body!" i realize i know absolutely nothing about how the human body works, and have been stumbling around on blind luck.

jess, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think water can give you gas, but I'm not a doctor. I suggest speaking with one (much like everyone else reading the thread).

Erm yes...after I had food poisoning recently (and I was dehydrated after that as well.) go to the doctors. they'll (maybe - happened in my case) want a stool sample. probably. and switch to a light diet.

and lay off the brown acid

Queen G, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Try water with baking soda. It'll usually push all the gas out that you have in your system. I have had that before, but it was more like heartburn than gas...

diagnosis: CHEST PAIN NON SPECIFIC/POSSIBLE ESOPHAGITIS REFLUX. which basically means my esophagus has been eroded by acids...reeally, reeeally bad acid reflux in other words. he proscribed some Super Pepcid AC (called protonix) which turned out to be some of the most expensive medecine they have ($75). discharged, took cab home (another $40.) spend restless, pained night. took second pill (once daily, of 20) this morning. feeling okay. still very weak from lack of food/drink. hopefully today will be able to eat some jello without vomiting it or it burning so bad i cant get more than one bite down.

total spent yesterday: $175.

i still havent gotten bills for either of the ER visits. i'm down to $400, with 150 going to student loans in less than a week. i'm probably going to have to go back home. basically, i'm diseased and fucked. and unhappy.

shyte, jess, that really sucks. Don't go back home though, don't do that. You're in Olympia right? Stay there if you are. Money is so stupid, and love is wonderful. Money will come to you when you need it, something will always work out.

Jess get well soon, and look after yourself ok? Can't be too careful with your health really, despite any sacrifices you might have to make,
