AND MOSES DID STEP DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN. AND MOSES DID BRING FORTH TWO TABLETS, EACH INSCRIBED WITH A NUMBER OF COMMANDMENTS. AND MOSES DID SAY 'COR, COP THEM JUGS'. AND THESE JUGS DID CAUSE MOSES TO LOSE HIS BALANCE AND FALL FACE-FIRST INTO SOME DOINGS. AND A COMEDY NOISE DID GO 'WAH-WAH-WAH-WAH-WAHHH'. AND MOSES DID RISE TO HIS FEET AND RESUME THE TITTY HUNT ANON.

BUT FOR JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME NO SUITABLE HELPER WAS FOUND. SO THE CATBEAST CAUSED JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME TO FALL INTO A DEEP SLEEP; AND WHILE JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME WAS SLEEPING, CATBEAST TOOK A PIECE OF JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME'S COCCYX AND CLOSED UP THE PLACE WITH MORTAL FLESH. THEN CATBEAST MADE A TITMOBILE FROM THE COCCYX HE HAD TAKEN OUT OF JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME, AND HE BROUGHT HER TO JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME.

With some very minor editing the bible really would be better than 100% of fiction imo

Can I put a word in here that David Rosenberg's A Literary Bible: An Original Translation was just published two weeks ago, and is well worth perusing for anyone interested in revisiting the Hebrew bible as poetry. It compiles and completes 35 years of translation efforts (Some Psalms, Blues of the Sky, Lightworks, Job Speaks, The Book of J, the last two with commentary by Harold Bloom) by the former editor-in-chief of the Jewish Publication Society. I encountered his Job Speaks in a humanities for scientists survey, and have hunted down a few of his other translations since.

There's sort of a complementary verse translation of the new testament, with 4 gnostic gospels included, that also came out last month: Willis Barnstone's The Restored New Testament: A New Translation with Commentary, Including the Gnostic Gospels. I don't know anything else about it.

A friend of mine also did a rhyming translation of the first 50 chapters of Genesis (http://www.risingpun.com/gtv/).

Nate, I got the Crumb book last week and it's really fantastic. Ranks up there with his best work, and there are many layers of "what the fuck" at work, obviously.
