What happened to the days of "Look Who's Talking Too" where wisecracking sperm fought over who got to shove their heads into an ovum?

They could combine some this movie with 'Teeth' and in the end the babies head gets chewed off during delivery.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty good. It's not a laugh-a-minute type of film, but it was consistently enjoyable as a small, character-driven comedy with an above-average cast and decent story.

the reviews are bemoaning that Fey didn't write it, so sorely do they miss her incisive, epoch-defining satirical shiv.

Sure, Fey's a talented comedic writer, but that's no reason to dislike her acting. Her acting turn in this was nicely understated and confident, I thought.
Maybe I just like these small, character-driven comedies more than critics do. I've enjoyed a couple other similar films this year that also got kind of mixed reviews: "Run Fat Boy Run" and "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" come to mind.

I haven't seen all of "Mean Girls" but I caught part of it on TV, and thought it was fairly enjoyable as a high-school angst comedy. "30 Rock" is one of the funnier shows on TV, I think. So I think she's a step above the hack level.

i agree with o.nate's assessment. wasn't quite as laff-riot as expected early on and i started being afraid the whole thing would let me down, then it sorta sneakily sucked me in (tho i didn't realize how much so until the "white trash" climax thing, when the whole class issue that was sorta bubbling under the surface whacked me in the face). good, solid movie. not as hilarious as mean girls.

Yeah, the trailer gave me a much different impression. I was expecting something a bit more crass and zany.

^^^^yep. i lol'd hard only once: when Fey gets all prematurely offended Weaver's character with "your not making money off some destitute third-world woman carrying my baby, etc etc" and SW's all of course not, but then pauses and makes a little note.

That was classic.
― o. nate, Monday, 5 May 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)
heh, yeah that was nicely played.
