did they get the rights to MWFTE from criterion? how does that work
― 69, Thursday, 3 April 2008 04:15 (sixteen years ago) link
they're all anchor bay catalogue titles so i'm not sure what the deal is, license-wise
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 04:18 (sixteen years ago) link
i thought that you must have bought the prisoner box set. clearly you don't have the weirdest box set after all

(well you might but the prisoner box set is still pretty weird, for its size and cost alone)
I would attend all this S1ocki-hosted film festival.

(It's got to happen.)
i mean... return of the killer tomatoes and fitzcarraldo on teh same bill?
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 04:42 (sixteen years ago) link

this makes my second copy for some weird reason.

Anchor Bay actually had it out first as a two-disc set, which is still in print at a lower price point than the Criterion. They've also just done a single disc, which I think is the one in the Cult box.
Anchor Bay is weird about licensed stuff. They used to have a bunch of studio titles like Straw Dogs, Two-Lane Blacktop, Repo Man, Blue Collar etc. that were available for like 5 minutes.
― C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 3 April 2008 16:43 (sixteen years ago) link
they release a new dvd of Army of Darkness every 3 minutes
― latebloomer, Thursday, 3 April 2008 16:59 (sixteen years ago) link
wicker man too
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:01 (sixteen years ago) link
Romero "Living Dead" series as well
― C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:03 (sixteen years ago) link
when will it stop
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:04 (sixteen years ago) link
Have they unveiled a Blu-ray line yet?
― C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:11 (sixteen years ago) link
nope.
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:13 (sixteen years ago) link
That lineup just seems so incongruous.

C.H.U.D.!!!!!
The only movie missing is The Stuff.

nah, those titles were available for years. I've got blue collar and the two lane blacktop tin.
is there a release date for the cult fiction boxset? cause my usual info sources are turning up bupkus.

it might only be available in canada
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:27 (sixteen years ago) link
Maybe someone at Anchor Bay set their iPod on scramble and said "Hey I've got an idea..."
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:29 (sixteen years ago) link
wow, didn't know blue collar was out of print. looks like it goes for $100 now. I better unload this thing before it gets rereleased.

It's ironic that far more obscure movies in this vein are more available. god bless Something Weird, I guess.

missed opportunity here, there are quite a few freakish tableaux in class of 1984 they could've tapped

so s1ocki, did this come in a boxset case?
― Edward III, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago) link
no, just the individual covers like that (each in a slipcase)
― s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:03 (sixteen years ago) link
NOT A BOX SET
― Edward III, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link
BOXCAR
I only own one of these films so a box set at the right price point would be tempting.

The guy on the far left of Class of 1984 looks a considerably amount like ex-ILXor Dickerson Pike. Hilarious!
― Laurel, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:23 (sixteen years ago) link
he looks like half the seattle male population
