the end of v1 no DOUBT. but which part is the qn.

s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

i still wish this was one movie :(

s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

vs. o-ren ishii

max, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, there are three options there that are really one big long awesome fight.

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

yo when are they going to release the special DVD or whatever that has both movies cut together??

max, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

vernita green vs. crazy 88

Jordan, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

I almost went for the elle driver fight, though. what a payoff.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

for reals.

s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

i'm picking Beatrix v. Elle Driver if just for the hilarious ending of elle screaming and wildly cursing beatrix

J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

y

J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone who votes the Bill fight is RONG.

The scene between her and Bill at the wedding chapel is awesomes, tho.

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

guess i'm gonna have to go for o-ren?

would vote for the crazy 88 if it weren't for the b&w business.

s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

waht

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

yeah b&w kinda soured me on crazzy 88 fight even though the fight in front of the blue screen is pretty visually stunning

J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

vs elle

latebloomer, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

"o wow i didn't know lucy liu had a brain"

crazy 88 tho, for jonny mo's wudan and whatnot

blueski, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

i mean i know he had to do the b&w to get the rating but it still kills the momentum for me

s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

i didn't mind the b&w because it was such a kitchen-sink scene, it was like "sure, why not".

Jordan, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

The color->b&w->(color?->)silhoutte thing is just achingly wonderful.

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

vernita green fight is just brutal.

Jordan, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

it has the best 'fallout'

blueski, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

Where is O-ren Ishii's dad vs. whatsisname in animation?

Anyway, Elle.

Oilyrags, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

Elle, for the close-quarters-ness of it. Unable to unsheath sword, etc. It kinda makes it an extension of the coffin-escape scene in a way.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

these movies attack the reptile part of my brain

caek, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

Beatrix v. O-Ren Ishii is the worst.

caek, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

voting for the 88s, assuming it includes vs. gogo

gff, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

in my mind gogo and 88 are separate fights but i could see it either way

J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

you want it to be one way, but it the other way

gff, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

vs. Elle for sure

eyeball squishing between toes puts it over the top

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

Oooo, good poll. I went with Bill, cos I love how quick and understated it is after that lengthy build-up. Clever storytelling there.

chap, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

Is it the Japanese cut of Kill Bill that stays in color during the Crazy 88 fight? Because that version is awesome.

The Yellow Kid, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

real answer here is anime O-Ren fucking up the guy who killed her parents

milo z, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

I feel like Gogo is going to get robbed here

El Tomboto, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

Well yeah, because one long seamless fight was arbitrarily broken up into three bits in order to keep this from being a landslide.

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

now you know what it feels like to have a poll be arbitrarily screwed with. IT BREAKS YOUR HEART.

s1ocki, Thursday, 3 April 2008 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

I still voted!

HI DERE, Thursday, 3 April 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

to be honest i figured there would be more outrage if i left that whole scene together-- though i do think the gogo fight and extended crazy 88s fight are diff 'fights'

J0rdan S., Friday, 4 April 2008 02:39 (seventeen years ago)

Elle Elle Elle

I really jumped out of my seat a little bit when Uma Thurman plucks out the eyeball. Best build-up and release of tension ever.

31g, Friday, 4 April 2008 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe I'm just weird but that is one extended scene of awesomeness for me.

HI DERE, Friday, 4 April 2008 03:12 (seventeen years ago)

let the dvd chapter breaks decide!

Oilyrags, Friday, 4 April 2008 12:38 (seventeen years ago)

I almost went for the elle driver fight, though. what a payoff.

I did.

i still wish this was one movie

It IS. One long, hyperextended, self-indulgent fetish movie.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 4 April 2008 13:14 (seventeen years ago)

Indeed. Sometimes that's ok though.

Oilyrags, Friday, 4 April 2008 13:27 (seventeen years ago)

Pei Mei, y'all. Assuming that by "training" we mean "fighting."

B.L.A.M., Friday, 4 April 2008 13:35 (seventeen years ago)

I like the scene where Pei Mei is making her fight with her rice.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 4 April 2008 13:50 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

well yes. but i wish it was like it was originally gonna be: one actual movie that was shorter than both of these combined.

s1ocki, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

i also wish warren beatty had stayed bill.

s1ocki, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

Not sure if it's the only one, but the Japanese version does have an all-color Crazy 88 scene. Honestly kind of liked the B&W version better.

But yeah, that scene, for pure insanity.

Beatrix v. Gogo Yubari 1

this one is so fucking good

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:14 (fourteen years ago)

as much as i absolutely love these movies, i still feel a bit robbed by the fact that they had to ditch the original ending of beatrix & bill fighting on a moonlit beach outside his hacienda

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:16 (fourteen years ago)

for me it pretty much ruined the movie.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:42 (fourteen years ago)

i feel like the movie is juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust whimsical enough in places to get away with the anti-climactic exploding heart ending, but yeah it's a bit of a disappointment

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:44 (fourteen years ago)

I mean fuck, they spend half of both movies building up to a mammoth confrontation. Even SONNY FUCKING CHIBA is scared of Bill! And then he just slices some wonderbread, rambles on for 10 minutes and gets killed in a split second "fight."

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:45 (fourteen years ago)

jord do you know if there was a reason why they ditched the original ending?

iatee, Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:47 (fourteen years ago)

i read on imdb that it's just cuz production was running too long

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:47 (fourteen years ago)

i have mixed feelings -- on the one hand, i feel like they should've just said fuck a deadline & filmed the scene. also feel like even if they had to ditch that scene in particular, they could've choreographed a cool sword fight in the hacienda or whatever. on the other hand i sorta feel like the sword fighting in vol. 1 (or the first two hours, if we're talking about a full movie) is so heavy & epic that it might've been hard to do a beatrix/bill final swordfight w/o it feeling anti-climactic in some regard

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:51 (fourteen years ago)

that is such a lame reason damn!

iatee, Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:52 (fourteen years ago)

pretty sure the Weinsteins cut off the money.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:52 (fourteen years ago)

isn't QT notorious for that kinda thing? didn't they film IB in some insanely short period of time because he was intent on getting the movie to sundance

right xp

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:53 (fourteen years ago)

This shit's been on TNT all day today

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that's why i bumped this thread

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:55 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like this would work well on tv, wouldn't feel ruined w/ commercials

iatee, Sunday, 20 March 2011 05:56 (fourteen years ago)

yeah & since they're airing it after midnight they haven't really edited anything out except for a few "fucks" and lucy liu's exposed brain

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 06:00 (fourteen years ago)

also, bourne supremacy is on tbs -- it's like turner broadcasting directly consulted me on what to put on after the tourney games

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 06:02 (fourteen years ago)

Elle Driver fight is the best moment in either movie. ending of KB2 is closest i've come to throwing my hands up and saying "I've had it with Tarantino" - that thing he does where he builds tension with long conversations is great when he pulls it off, but when he doesn't the scene sinks like a stone. there's no tension to the confrontation w/Bill and there's no ~emotional weight~ to it either... these movies are just overstuffed and i think there's a lot of perfectly good scenes in them that would've played better if they were in a movie with more modest goals.

haha i loved the bill fight! i did think this movie was Too Long and prob could have lost a whole 20 minutes if you just deflowered people's syntax a lil, so i am not endorsing every second of the goldfish/superman stuff, but the actual "fight" i thought was great: bill walking barefoot into the dark garden while you count his steps, and then the play-gunfight-echoing silent drop to the grass. cannot imagine coming to the end of four hours of kill bill and feeling cheated of swordfights. i saw the first one in the theatre and didn't see this one till just now, but i rewatched the first one first, hence my whetted swordfight appetite i guess. anyway, good breakup movie.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 10 February 2014 19:32 (eleven years ago)

gogo robbed a lil; some of the stuff w the ball crashing through furniture is best in show

i want to say one word to you, just one word:buzzfeed (difficult listening hour), Monday, 10 February 2014 19:36 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, Bill's death is great! It's possible when I first saw this I was disappointed that there wasn't more of a "final fight" but it totally made sense to me. Plus she'd already been through the sort of "samurai showdown" deal with O-Ren, it wouldn't be anything new. Maybe the idea is we've finally arrived at the last cult genre which Elle must face, and it's...a Tarantino movie! Everybody's just talking about pop culture and dying at inopportune moments.

At the time I was convinced the one-movie version would be way better. Not sure how I feel now, having not watched them in ages they seem pretty watchable and great in my memory, but I suspect there's enough flab that it could be made to kinda work, though at the expense of what I'm not sure. You could easily do a re-cut of these that dials it all down to a wacky comedy, and one that cuts all the laugh lines for something much more brutal and exhausting. Or it could primarily be a slow "hunt" kind of movie if the action scenes were all sliced down to their climaxes.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 10 February 2014 19:38 (eleven years ago)

i'm sure i'll be a minority of one here, but i thought the kill bill movies were wretched. there's a grim, seedy joylessness that normally runs through tarantino's movies, but the grim, seedy joylessness here swallows-up the entirety of these two movies.

and i like grim movies! maybe i've just had enough of tarantino's particular style. he still writes good dialogue.

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 10 February 2014 19:47 (eleven years ago)

Baffled by the winner of this poll.

Nhex, Monday, 10 February 2014 19:56 (eleven years ago)

if this were deaths not fights bill would be the easy winner: nail in head, decapitation, etc., vs broken heart

i want to say one word to you, just one word:buzzfeed (difficult listening hour), Monday, 10 February 2014 20:04 (eleven years ago)

the problem with the crazy 88 fight is thurman just doesn't move very well and that sequence exposes her limitations more than any other... its heart is in the right place though

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 10 February 2014 21:04 (eleven years ago)

i'm baffled that you people remember more than three scenes of a distended foot-fetish chopsocky movie.

images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 February 2014 21:12 (eleven years ago)

really, at this point, you are 'baffled' by these things

Doctor Casino, Monday, 10 February 2014 21:13 (eleven years ago)

yeah, you people are too smart not to see through this garbage-picking charlatan

tho the KBs were at least mediocre

images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 February 2014 21:15 (eleven years ago)

a distended foot-fetish chopsocky movie.

colorful description! i had to look up "distended"(swollen due to pressure from inside; bloated). the rest i got.

his movies have been far less foot-fetish-y, and far more chopsocky-y, lately.

Daniel, Esq 2, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 00:19 (eleven years ago)

I'm A fan of the Bill fight too, it's swiftness after the length of the build-up is really well done. V2>>V1 imo.
