Skybus becomes third airline this week to close
Please post all gloating, complaining, prophecies of doom for the airline industry, etc. I'll start by saying that I had to wait eight hours for a delayed Skybus flight out of Chattanooga (not the most happening of airports). Once aboard, the captain apologized briefly, revealed that the delay was due to a Skybus employee damaging the aircraft, and then proceeded to not compensate us in any way, shape, or form. I realize the budget-airline model is based on razor-thin margins (apparently a little too razor-thin!) but if you can't even hand out an extra bag of peanuts as a mea culpa you're going to have trouble filling future flights...

What the hell motivates somebody to start an airline?

it's funny you should mention that. we were discussing antitrust and market entry, and basically if you can get access to destinations to which no one else wants to fly, you can make $$$$ and it's not antitrust because you're not prohibiting anyone else from going there, they just don't want to.

Too bad they chased a real airline (JetBlue) out of CMH before going kaput.
