Anyone remember this 1980 animated feature?

Yeah, they used to show it at about 7.30 on Christmas morning. I thought it was shit even when I was 9.

Saw it once at a friend's house. All I remember is a poignant-at-the-time song about a wolf or something who spent all his time chasing sporting glory at the expense of his family.

Loved it -- and the same people who did it were the ones who then did Tron!
Also, a couple of pretty good Graham Gouldman songs.

The soundtrack to this is the only vinyl LP my girlfriend owns and she played it to me at the weekend. It has a disco song about an alligator on it.

The film is crap though. REALLY boring. I remember 90% of the film being about ostriches racing but I am informed this is a very minor part of procedings.

I love it - must've watched it a million times as a kid. Great soundtrack. And all those disco montages for the different sporting events.

yep. and apparently Brad Bird got his first job as an animator on this too.

I seem to remember finding it almost frighteningly psychedelic at points; isn't there a scene where the marathon running lion and goat fall in love, and it all turns weird, the animation going non-naturalistic for a while? The Gouldman song probbaly accentuated the effect.

there's an earlier thread on this buried somewhere. it's one of my childhood favorites. you can get a video copy used through amazon, but a dvd release is apparently unlikely to happen.

The idea of getting a turtle imitating Henry Kissinger to be the host is one of those things that must have thoroughly confused my nine year old self.

watching it again, there are plenty of wtf moments in this. Seventh Seal ref where the Scandinavian horse talks about working with Ingmar Birdman lol.

I love how every character is every stereotype, ever.

The soundtrack just got a release on UK iTunes!
