electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:25 (seventeen years ago)

old one, for historians: Working on the notion that 'the mongrels may bark but the sheepfuxors move on'

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:26 (seventeen years ago)

can you actually tra(y)ce back through all the mong-fux threads with the obligatory old linxxx? did we miss any??

haitch, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:34 (seventeen years ago)

Order me two shots of a cheapish tequila and 2 beers of any type.

csa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:37 (seventeen years ago)

and if you meet anyone that has a first name beginning w/ an ' A ' tell them to F Off. It will be fun. Truest.

csa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:42 (seventeen years ago)

wow, an honorary thread and a F Off in the space of 20 minutes. I am either humbled or torn.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:47 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sick.

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 10 April 2008 07:53 (seventeen years ago)

This is a well named mongrel thread indeed. Good work.

moley, Thursday, 10 April 2008 08:18 (seventeen years ago)

HI DERE! I am in the wollongong once more. My lost jacket from last week has not turned up. I don't know which of the these things is most surprising:

1: that whoever found it did not hand it in to lost property,
2: that I am even remotely shocked that 1 happened,
3: that I owned something someone else wanted for their own

(kit has seen the item in question, a nice casual blue jacket)

edwardo, Thursday, 10 April 2008 08:24 (seventeen years ago)

That sucks - losing a treasured jacket is the pits.

I once had a sense of humour, you know - check out a blast from my past - never released, this one is from about 1991:

http://www.last.fm/music/Pelican+Daughters/_/Beautiful+Balloons

I played it to an uber-cool Spanish friend of mine back in the day and he said, 'I see you in a polo neck, riding a bicycle'.

moley, Thursday, 10 April 2008 08:26 (seventeen years ago)

not bad needs more slap bass

edwardo, Thursday, 10 April 2008 08:28 (seventeen years ago)

It's like mully never left

moley, Thursday, 10 April 2008 08:35 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha :)

Trayce, Thursday, 10 April 2008 08:40 (seventeen years ago)

I have to find me a new place to live in three months time. Argh!!

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 09:42 (seventeen years ago)

In even worse news: I broke me sunnies to-day getting sourdough bread at the Central Market :(

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 09:43 (seventeen years ago)

only you could break your glasses buying bread

have you considered moving from adelaide?

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 09:47 (seventeen years ago)

of course that would probably be a bad idea considering there's nowhere to rent in melb or on the east coast

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 09:47 (seventeen years ago)

Argh don't say that, Nick has to move house in a few months.

Trayce, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:08 (seventeen years ago)

i am considering subletting my shed

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:10 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, I have considered moving to Melbourne...but I don't want to be stuck way out in the burbs (and I'm not keen on going without a job offer). Adelaide might be many things but at least I can live within five minutes of the city in a decent cottage and only pay $125 pw for the privilege. Which is why my credit card bill is better than all of youse.

That all said, a few friends are considering moving over sometime and have suggested that we start up some kinda commune in St. Kilda...

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:15 (seventeen years ago)

st kilda (not east trayce) is a horrid shithole

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I haven't told my (American and Kiwi) friends that just yet.

I also haven't told them that you can't get Coopers on tap in Melbourne.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:20 (seventeen years ago)

categorically untrue

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:27 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I remember that it's DIFFICULT and NOT EASY.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:28 (seventeen years ago)

st kilda (not east trayce)

lol :)

Aw man, we are listening to a Nik Kershaw album. Haha. Actually it isnt that bad, for 80s proggy synthpop.

Trayce, Thursday, 10 April 2008 11:00 (seventeen years ago)

You can't rent shit in Melbourne. It's fucked. You can't buy either because the market's up its own arsehole. All week we've had to listen to the people downstairs play their fucking harp nonstop and we can't get away.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

That sounds awful.

moley, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:02 (seventeen years ago)

You can't buy ANYWHERE. Not even in Adelaide. Not even in Hobart. Not even in Wagga Wagga!

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:12 (seventeen years ago)

Aw man, we are listening to a Nik Kershaw album.

Did you play THE RIDDLE??

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:12 (seventeen years ago)

I used to LOVE the riddle!

Right now I'm listening to the Triffids' Beautiful Waste. Fuck I love this song too

gem, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:25 (seventeen years ago)

yeah

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:31 (seventeen years ago)

you guys should all move to perth

also my moms reports theyre taking people on buses to view rented place in sydney? im not sure if this is some kind of weird rent auction bid out war or what. she says the same thing happened many years ago.

oh and a one bedroom apartment in sydney outersuburbs is costing $380ish/wk. who can afford that shit?? thats as much as the mortgage on our new bitchin' 2212sqft house. now i think about it, maybe you should all move to middle america.

sunny successor, Thursday, 10 April 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

Perth is the most ridiculous of any aus city I thought?

wilter, Thursday, 10 April 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe that's just in those mining towns where it costs 20 thousand million dollars a month to rent a fibro shack.

wilter, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

I don't mind the old Perthy Perth.

moley, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah ss, Perth is probably the stupidest city for prices atm.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

haha move to Perth! That's classic. You'd only move to Perth if you won the lotto. My rent has increased by 80% in the last 18 months. My income hasn't increased at all in that time. The rental vacancy rate is under 0.5%. And let's not even mention affordability for purchasing a home. I'm getting really scared thinking about the future for me, and I'm in a relatively high paying profession. Fuck knows what it feels like to be in the shoes of an unskilled labourer or a single parent.

gem, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

Well being a single parent in Sydney is very scary - but you must never let them know you're scared!

moley, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:23 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to move to Brisbane soon. Australia's most livable city! Even though I think there are studies or some shit that suggest this isn't the case at all.

wilter, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

I've never ever had problems finding a rental place, but to be honest it's been a while since I last had to try. I can't help thinking the panic people are describing relates mainly to larger homes, and esp people in groups or families trying to rent homes in the city - a single person going for a 2brm flat wouldnt have too much trouble (I mean shit, there's places saying "for lease" in my street all the time, people come and go) but the kicker certainly is the cost.

Trayce, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

that may be true for melbs. But it certainly isn't true for Perth. I live in a 2BR in a complex of 80 units. When I moved in in late 2002 it was full of singles and poor folks. Now it's full of actual families. Even 1BR flats go to the first inspection here. And for exorbitant amounts of money. There just is nowhere to live.

gem, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

it's way, way more difficult than it was even two years ago. i was lucky to find a place that nobody else wanted - every other place i looked at / considered applying for had thirty or more people turn up to the open houses.

electricsound, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

I think the scariest part is knowing what the turnaround time would be for trying to fix the problem... the reality is that creating new public housing is going to have a lead time of several years. What happens in the meantime? Lots and lots of homeless people I suspect. And the rest of us will be stuck paying big proportions of our income on grotty old properties. Boohoo.

gem, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)

Trayce, it really is that bad now. Trust me. I know some people who have plunged themselves into massive debt because there's nothing to rent.

Howard is a cunt.

xp Yeah Gem, you've got it worse than any of us. This country really is going to shit very quickly. All we can do is try to keep our shitty noisy flat and save for when the market busts.

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

Well if its that bad how come theres at least 3 flats for rent every week in my street??

Trayce, Friday, 11 April 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I wonder how long I can sit and quietly watch sekritbored without anyone realising I can see it. Hilarity.

Trayce, Friday, 11 April 2008 00:06 (seventeen years ago)

i would imagine if you don't post then probably indefinitely

it's quite possible those flats are overpriced or unliveable, maybe it's just a lucky coincidence

electricsound, Friday, 11 April 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

They don't take the signs down, Trayce.

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 11 April 2008 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

there was a house on lygon st towards the city that was for rent for three months or so - finally got let out last week. i figure there must have been a huge hole in the floor or roof or perhaps it stank of cat wee because it looked like a lovely place from the outside

electricsound, Friday, 11 April 2008 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

xxp also what jim said.

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 11 April 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

i changed it to an ILM thread :)

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ta. I'm guessing that knowing the context for the outburst would cause my brain to collapse and make me stupid so that's about all I need to know.

edwardo, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

I dont think anyone knows/cares what the context was - and it couldve been anything anyway, he wanted a reason to asplode a long time ago.

Trayce, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

What JMJarre song was it that was so lolz?

Trayce, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

(I missed Rage. I went to bed early doped up on cold meds cos I've been sick)

Trayce, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

now that i think of it i don't know that i've ever seen a jarre video

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)

looks like someone else forgot to set their pvr

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I don't think there was a context apart from the new era of anti-meta-bitching.

i changed it to an ILM thread :)

Autumn Almanac, Sunday, 1 June 2008 03:00 (seventeen years ago)

King Boy Pato, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:32 (seventeen years ago)

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:37 (seventeen years ago)

how about: cheap scotch and a three bar heater: mongrels and sheepfuxors brace for winter

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:38 (seventeen years ago)

Heh.

Trayce, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:40 (seventeen years ago)

Is it a Rinnai bar heater? It should be.

King Boy Pato, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:55 (seventeen years ago)

none other

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 09:16 (seventeen years ago)

I am alone for a week for the first time in years. Will I emerge sane? My intention is to write some music of some kind. Silly! After all these years, not to admit once and for all that music is never written with the mere intention to write music.

My only companion is the washing machine, which has menial wetwork to perform. It cares nothing for human ambitions of any kind, for it is, after all, a machine, doomed to juggle clothes according to a set of rules - mere prestidigitation in the thrall of predestination.

moley, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:00 (seventeen years ago)

Is it hot?

Autumn Almanac, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:01 (seventeen years ago)

Not yet.

moley, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

Distractions aplenty:

* ILX

* Genuinely disturbing Thomas Mann novel. Only five pages left, so enjoyment needs to be meted out in smaller portions.

* the sybaritic lure of peanut butter

moley, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:29 (seventeen years ago)

To make things fun for myself in the studio I invent silly games. Tomorrow's game (and it must be tomorrow, as I have taken a day of work for the precise purpose of only having one day) is to write ten songs in a row. But only the lead melodies and bass, and using only sine waves.

moley, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:32 (seventeen years ago)

Now, back to the scary novel. And then to sleep, where, no doubt, maudlin dreams of Teutonic madness await.

moley, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:33 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for the indigenous/aboriginal answers (as you all guessed, it was 'indigenous' the commentator said, not 'native', which I made up).

I did figure an AFL commentator was not to be listened to on this. The indig. player had done some spectacular bit of skill but they were wondering if it was just a fluke, and the commentator said 'i know we all think the indigenous guys have magical powers, but...' or something like that.

caek, Sunday, 1 June 2008 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

so shall i start the new thread then?

electricsound, Monday, 2 June 2008 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

yes, in a sec, but while we're still on this old one i'll say that i have not seen any creepiness towards me from anyone so i am a bit mystified by esteban's post (which seems well-intentioned, i am not having a go at him, i just don't know what he's getting at.)

estela, Monday, 2 June 2008 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

I think he thinks you having fans is creepy for some reason, maybe? Its the only thing I can think of.

Trayce, Monday, 2 June 2008 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

thinking trayce is thinking
