moonship journey to baja, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

Fuck you, I wont do what you tell me!

i expected this to be the only poll option

Jordan, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

i think that one might get my vote but it's too close to call at the moment.

ken c, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:00 (seventeen years ago)

incredibly awkward word choice and forced rhyme of "were forces" line FTW

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

I like "Motherfuckerrrrr!" myself.

chap, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses

i always heard this as 'some of those (that? the?) law enforcers are the same that burn crosses.' clunks either way.

banriquit, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

Some of those that work forces
are the same that burn crosses. Uggh!

from sing365.
this song would be a great candidate for "don't forget the lyrics."

ian, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, thats what i heard too. voted URGH!

John Justen, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

i thought it was "wear farces"

"Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" FTW. "political" "commentary" re-imagined as an adolescent tantruming because he's been told to tidy his bedroom.

Pashmina, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

spoken like a true mod.

"Fuck you I'm going to engage in the mature consensus politics which has served America's poor and disenfranchised so well up to this point".

I think I read this in Spin a few years ago.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)

I think I read this in Spin a few years ago.

Faced! :( (I never read spin in my life! yr probably right though)

Pashmina, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

tho I think they had the equation the other way around as a comment on the banality of the band's politics

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses

I'm pretty sure this is actually "burned crosses" in the song, not "bore crosses"

latebloomer, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

"Teenager's whiny tantrum unduly given the weight of a political rallying cry" or something

xp yeah latebloomer correct

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

it's OK, Pashmina, I think I saw HOOS's Spin zing in an old dylannn post.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

Wasn't even a zing! Just a comment.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

it's already been determined that hoozings are nonstarters where you been at

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

URGH

John Justen, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

Dude can't pull of slant rhyme worth shit, and yet he never stops trying.

Abbott, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

I used to hate this track for that specific reason (whiny adolescent-ness), but I kind of like it a little bit now thanks to GTA:San Andreas, it worked very well when you were doing the car races. Fuck if I'd ever listen to it in any other context.

I could never take the band's guitarist, or the band's politics seriously after reading him propping the shining path in some guitarist rag in the 1990s. WTF, dude.

URGH
MOTHER FUCKERRRRRR

Pashmina, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

this song is fun to play on guitar

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

I think Zach (Zack?) just needs a big old hug, like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

Abbott, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

i like his playing.

xp

Jordan, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

yeah pash but weren't a whole lot of misinformed radicals biggin up shining path in the early 90s? xxp

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

"Fuck you, I won't tidy my bedroom."

Bodrick III, Monday, 14 April 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

Things I have enjoyed immensely, part 45893: Catholic church wedding in rural Donegal, hymns in Irish and epic sermon to please bride's strict traditionalist family members, trek out to expensive marquee (inc. chandeliers!) in garden of their family home (no guests inside house please) where polite meals are eaten and many carefully uncontroversial speeches given, duo plays traditional Irish music quietly while dining tables are removed and the groom's friend's rock band sets up, launches into first song which is a cover of this - hair and sweat everywhere, all non-family attendees slamming into each other shouting MOTHERFUCKARHGHHHHH

a passing spacecadet, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 10:38 (seventeen years ago)

A shining path shows us the way to vote.

SeekAltRoute, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 10:43 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, it's funny that 15 years after the song was released people still don't what's the correct transcription of the lyrics. And what the hell is that "chosen one/white" part even supposed to mean?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 10:44 (seventeen years ago)

Rebecca, I played it when I DJed a friend's wedding last year. IT went down a storm :)

(I voted for "Motherfucker!")

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:27 (seventeen years ago)

Why is this in ILE?

(setting myself up for 'it's not music' zing?)

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

"Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses" = some cops are also KKK members. Right?

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

i thought this was about KKK and i thought for a while the other bit was "those who died are justified for wearing a badge and your clothes in white" as in like white KKK gear.

but then i also thought it was "your trojan wife" which makes no sense

ken c, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

Bloody Helen of Troy causing trouble again

Tom D., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

aren't the lyrics printed in the liner notes? (yes i loved this album as a young teenager)

Mark Clemente, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

No, for some reason the album sleeve has lyrics for all the other songs except this one.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

ICE KREAM KOAN

Abbott, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

I remember them playing at the Big Day Out in Adelaide years ago, doing this song, and being amused by Zac(h?) deDoodaa telling the crowd the sing along with the "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" bit, and them all doing it, all without any sense of irony.

milo z, Monday, 28 April 2008 23:26 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha srsly. they're kinda one dimensional but i can't bring myself to hate em. evil empire is an underrated album.

latebloomer, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

My favourite line is "Bruno Brookes, you're fired" after he absent-mindedly played the uncensored version on the Top 40 show.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 10:07 (seventeen years ago)

Glad not to be the only one with an insane Rage love/hate dichotomy. I was going to vote for the burn crosses line but apparently I've been mishearing it for like 10 years. What the hell I'll still vote for it.

Urgh!

Lolpez, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)

I kind of miss music trying really hard to be political but coming off all retarded... At least Rage inspired something in a generation of teens despite their "tear your posters off your walls in a fit of adolescent stroppiness". That whole thing seems to have disappeared in music now and has been replaced by... well I dunno, nothing really.

the next grozart, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

Emo I suppose, but there are hardly any politics in Emo really.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Monday, 14 December 2009 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

So, does anyone still know what the correct lyrics to this tune are? "Work forces" or "were forces"? "Bore crosses" or "burn crosses"? "Chosen ones" or "chosen whites"? And what does it all mean?

Tuomas, Monday, 14 December 2009 11:59 (fifteen years ago)
