Jack In The Box: classic or dud?

Classic for having perhaps the biggest and most varied menu of any burger chain. Dud for not being nationwide.

Oh Jack, I miss you!

HEY I want egg rolls, fried tacos, some sort of chicken fajita/pita sandwich hybrid, a breakfast sandwich, an oreo shake, and I require curly fries in addition to these things. Oh but it's 4:19 AM and I only have enough gas to drive a half mile. Too bad I can't get those things immediately OH WAIT NEVERMIND I LIVE IN A MODERATE-TO-MAJOR CITY IN THE AMERICAN WEST SO THEREFORE I CAN GET THESE THINGS AT MY NEIGHBORHOOD JACK IN THE BOX

egg rolls? really?

ENBB, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

They actually stretch as far east as Tennessee and the Carolinas, but sadly none in Florida. :( It may be what I miss most about living in Nashville.

<3 Jack. They have these boneless chicken breast strips right now that are pretty good.

There used to be a Jack in the Box in Waukegan, Illinois. It became the preciousss because we only got to go 2x a year after the dentist. Now the closest one would be south of Springfield.

Only thing is that's like $20 and the worst heartburn you could ever imagine.

I used to like the Ultimate Cheeseburger before they started putting a bunch of mustard and crap on there. Used to be so minimal: Patties, cheese, mayo, bun.

Weird, yeah, the only time I've ever seen them was west of the Mississippi. I didn't even know they were in Illinois at all.

Thanks to a Zoogz Rift comic strip, I always call this Clancy's Jack-in-the-Crack.

Terrible Cold, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

In my pre-vegetarian days, 4 tacos and a chicken sandwich for $3 was my 1 am stoner snack of choice.

Z S, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:14 (seventeen years ago)

One time a friend and I ordered 40 tacos for $20. They only actually gave us 30 tacos and made jokes about our stonerdom, but it was worth it.

Z S, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

I always heard there was no actual meat in their tacos, making them vegetarian safe, though I suspect that to be a stoner urban legend.

rockapads, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

I just remember the kangaroo meat story when I was a little kid.

svend, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

i have eaten jack in the box exactly once, at the end of a very long night in which id already eaten about 4 full dinners - i ordered the ultimate bacon cheeseburger - SUCKED. their ads are kinda a turn-off in & of themselves, if the food was actually any fucking good, theyd feature it in them.

deeznuts, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

Scary that they haven't raised the price of 2-for-99-cents tacos in at least 6 years. How do they do that?

felicity, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

i used to live a block from a jack-in-the-box and it was the greatest shit ever for four-veinte hungries.

dollar menu! egg rolls! FAKE SIRLOIN BURGER W/CURLY FRIES

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

i mean now that i've moved and have an extra dollar or two i'm kinda "wow did i really used to eat that like 3 times a week mad gross" but at 4 am i miss the fries

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

i used to like the egg rolls dipped in a huge pile of ketchup. everyone says that's gross, but for their egg rolls it works.

rockapads, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i mean their egg rolls were basically stuffed fries

Also, don't think JitB isn't at all aware of what people are buying their tacos:

DiSTORTOTRON (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 26 April 2009 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

Jack in the Box is fast food. I stopped eating fast food a while ago. My body is happier for it. So, because I have yet to find any fast food that really shines as food, I will say dud. Why put that cheap-ass stuff in your mouth if you don't have to?

Hell, plain rice with some tamari and some yellow onion is even cheaper and won't fuck you up nearly as badly. Or a baked potato, eaten cold with some cheese. Seriously.

Sounds a) not filling b) gross.

fillibustar superstar! (Abbott), Monday, 27 April 2009 04:57 (sixteen years ago)

I like a lot of forms of the potato, but "baked" in the skin and ingested as such is not my thing.

DiSTORTOTRON (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 April 2009 05:02 (sixteen years ago)

The Ultimate Cheeseburger, btw, is not idly named. It's amazingly good, because somehow Jack in the Box makes fast food meat taste like real meat. Also, it's about 1500 calories.

tits akimbo (kenan), Monday, 27 April 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

(Not exaggerating.)

tits akimbo (kenan), Monday, 27 April 2009 05:06 (sixteen years ago)

Shit, I used to gobble down two of them in a sitting.

Serves you right.

tits akimbo (kenan), Monday, 27 April 2009 05:08 (sixteen years ago)

I love the Earl of Sandwich. Too bad the resolution isn't better on the video. In a thoroughly gross and historically accurate detail, he has a little sore on his lip.

tits akimbo (kenan), Monday, 27 April 2009 05:12 (sixteen years ago)

I will never again refer to a baloney sandwich with invoking the Earl.

worm? lol (J0hn D.), Friday, 15 May 2009 03:52 (sixteen years ago)

riding past a JITB on the bus today i noticed they're now selling 'taco salads.'

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Friday, 15 May 2009 04:12 (sixteen years ago)

Ah, yes, "taco salads". While watching the Portland Trailblazers lose 4 games to the Houston Rockets a short time ago I was treated to watching the tv ad for this delicacy, oh, maybe 45 times.

The whole thrust of the ad was to reassure virile young male JITB customers that, although this menu item is called a "salad", it does not contain any actual vegetable matter, and therefore is safe to eat, while simultaneously insinuating that eating something called a "salad" might make said male customer more attractive to women.

Only convinced me that JITB advertising copywriters must be sad and desperate people.

Aimless, Friday, 15 May 2009 04:24 (sixteen years ago)

That's a taco bell ad.

There's a tone in that menopause commercial I don't like that I've never seen in any other JITB commercial. New writers?
