Symmetry required gabbneb to start this.
― G00blar, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 13:07 (seventeen years ago)
haha come on guys, get excited this is like a week on sunday!
― ken c, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 13:10 (seventeen years ago)
I was wondering if it was even still happening, since I hadn't heard anything about it in weeks.
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 13:19 (seventeen years ago)
Insufficient bumpage
― Tom D., Tuesday, 10 June 2008 13:25 (seventeen years ago)
I would go to this if I lived anywhere near a place that paid for things with those fancy Ls.
― RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 13:26 (seventeen years ago)
Excitement re this event is making me do random swears of joy.
― Mister Craig, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 07:29 (seventeen years ago)
I predict this will be even better than Stereolab were at the Windmill last night.
― Bocken Social Scene, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 09:09 (seventeen years ago)
OHMIGOD HOW GOOD WERE STEREOLAB LAST NIGHT?!?!?! AAAAAAHHHHH....
Um. Yes. We are ready and excited for this.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 10:17 (seventeen years ago)
ooh my friend went to stereolab last night too.
red bull dozers are gonna be way better than them though.
― ken c, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 10:29 (seventeen years ago)
seriously. they're on at 5pm so get there ON TIME or MISS OUT!
― ken c, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 10:30 (seventeen years ago)
It's lookin' like :
Doors Open 4.30
5.00pm Red Bull Dozers (Ken) 5.50pm The Pinefox 6:40pm Vietgrove (Pashmina) 7:30pm Autorotation (Kate) 8:20pm A Nation Mourns (me) 9:10pm The Chemistry Experiment (Emily) 10:00pm Gooblar (+ The Pinefox guest appearence?)
30 minute sets from everyone - all timings likely to be approximate!
Barbecue on from 4.30. Is anyone DJing in between bands?
― Dr.C, Thursday, 12 June 2008 14:26 (seventeen years ago)
Stereolab, now there's a band I forgot existed.
― RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 12 June 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)
they're not playing the lolrus so may as well not exist
― ken c, Thursday, 12 June 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)
ARGH ARGH ARGH WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO ON AFTER VIETGROVE?!?!? They will slaughter us and blow us off the stage!
Pash, can I borrow your Daisy Rock, if you are bringing it? I have to play guitar on one song and don't want to drag it all that way for nothing, and that guitar is sooooo swoonsome.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 13 June 2008 10:52 (seventeen years ago)
The 12-string? Yeah, of course!
― Pashmina, Friday, 13 June 2008 10:55 (seventeen years ago)
Don't you just love the internet?
In the old days, that sort of 'sorting out' would have taken a week of missed messages and the like.
― Mark G, Friday, 13 June 2008 12:12 (seventeen years ago)
Can you guys record this this year? Surely someone has a Zoom H2/4
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 13 June 2008 13:32 (seventeen years ago)
As i am not playing I will see if I can sort out recording a feed off the desk.
― Ed, Friday, 13 June 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)
and i will see if i can video things with a hidden camera.
― Upt0eleven, Friday, 13 June 2008 13:36 (seventeen years ago)
Mr ken c, can you ask the dudes if this is possible and what cabling I need to bring?
JW, can you recommend best software for recording long continuous stereo (probably with real time compression)?
― Ed, Friday, 13 June 2008 13:38 (seventeen years ago)
Audience recording will probably sound better than a desk recording - the latter will be too clean and unbalanced - at least for the full bands?

Yay! Thanks, Pash, that's awesome.
Recording? Oh god, the PRESSURE. Can we do an interweb hookup for live blogging and streaming of the event, tee hee hee?
― Masonic Boom, Saturday, 14 June 2008 11:25 (seventeen years ago)
probably a silly question but are very occasional posters (but enthusiastic lurkers) welcome?
― ljubljana, Saturday, 14 June 2008 13:21 (seventeen years ago)
Everyone is welcome! (up to the capacity of the venue, obv)
― Pashmina, Saturday, 14 June 2008 13:21 (seventeen years ago)
ta! I will try and get there all the way from distant Wiltshire
― ljubljana, Saturday, 14 June 2008 13:23 (seventeen years ago)
Greetings all, Mark from Vietgrove here.
We're really looking forward to this gig- last year's Lolrus Festival was a HUGE amount of fun, and it'll be fum to come back and do it all over again! My only disappointment is that the love of my life, who lives in S.E. and has yet to see us play, will miss this one as she'll be back in her native Ireland, worse bloody luck...
Kate, I don't think you've got that much to worry about. 1)You guys will be fab and 2) Pash and I haven't had a chance to play together since the last gig we did in February. We're gonna be doing an all-improv set for this one as a result, which should prove to be, erm, 'interesting'!
― Craftyfox, Saturday, 14 June 2008 15:33 (seventeen years ago)
I meant *fun*, of course. Always good to see the 'curse of the bad typing' strike on your first post on a new board!
― Craftyfox, Saturday, 14 June 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)
Hi folks!
Slight change to the schedule - it's now
5:00-5:30 Red Bull Dozers (ken c) 5:50-6:20 Pinefox (pinefox) 6:40-7:10 The Chemistry Experiment (emil.y) 7:30-8:00 Autorotation (kate) 8:20-8:50 A Nation Mourns (dr. c) 9:10-9:40 Vietgrove (pashmina) 10:00-10:30 Gooblar (gooblar) (+ Pinefox collab as ILX SUPERGROUP FINALE?)
Erm.. does anyone want to DJ?
― ken c, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:27 (seventeen years ago)
(otherwise I would)
erm, i presume windmill has DJing equipment right? i never explored that side of things..
― ken c, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)
yes it does and they will be expecting someone to do so.
― Ed, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:29 (seventeen years ago)
sweet! i know 2 persons who definitely will do it. but anyone fancy it obviously say so!
― ken c, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)
since we will have 6 x 20 minute slots
― ken c, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)
Blimey, that means I'll have to completely rethink my drinking schedule...
― Craftyfox, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)
nah just keep the same drinking schedule ;)
(but yes sorry had to do it cos just realised that chem.exp singer need to catch a coach back to leeds and the last one is at 10!)
― ken c, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)
although bands will be setting up during that those changeover times, so there might be a few 'noises-off' over the DJ...
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)
Actually, I'm afraid I'm gonna hjave to req
― Craftyfox, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
Actually, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to request a change in the running order on the behalf of Vietgrove. We'll (i.e. Pash) be driving back to Newcastle after our slot, and as it's a bloody long way we'll be wanting to hit the road by TEN AT THE LATEST. Would one of the other bands therefore mind swapping- you'd be doing us a huge favour!
― Craftyfox, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)
Mark, dude, it'll be easier this way, we can load out straight into the car and bounce out of there w/o leaving all our gear in the dark for a few hours & probably forgetting something & leaving it behind. I'm rarely in bed before 3am these days so driving back will be no problem.
― Pashmina, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)
No worries in that case- you're the man behind the wheel!
Have successfully managed to get Monday off, thank god...
― Craftyfox, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)
I am looking forward to this.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 19 June 2008 08:50 (seventeen years ago)
I think I'm gonna have to hold myself to half-pint intervals if I want any hope of getting through my set, let alone a duet with the pinefox.
― G00blar, Thursday, 19 June 2008 11:18 (seventeen years ago)
hmm i will be in London this weekend.
― Jarlrmai, Thursday, 19 June 2008 11:31 (seventeen years ago)
Crafty and pash so sorry i couldn't do better with the times :( Norman you're a champ for helping out. i will buy you a crate of red bull!
― ken c, Thursday, 19 June 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)
I don't think we're going to get to stay for the Goobs/pinefox thing, bah. Even the non-Leeds of us are going to have to head off about 10 now. SUx0RS.
Ken, have you sent out a new new facebook reminder? Would be a good idea.
― emil.y, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks, Ken, you are doing an AWESOME job. Ken C for Mayor! Ken C for Mayor! You are the bestest.
V. V. V. excited for this now. Eeeep!

eek hope everything is ok!

I haven't looked it up yet, but I think atypical pneumonia isn't as bad as typical pneumonia. She's not in hospital or anything.
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 20 June 2008 14:30 (seventeen years ago)
Dad got killed by a motorist this morning, so we're not able to play, sorry. Probably not going to be online much over the next week or so. Have the best time, guys, seriously.
― Pashmina, Friday, 20 June 2008 17:02 (seventeen years ago)
God!
Best wishes!
And other stupidly useless things to say in this situation.
― Mark G, Saturday, 21 June 2008 08:22 (seventeen years ago)
oh no :-(
my condolences, Pashmina.
― StanM, Saturday, 21 June 2008 08:25 (seventeen years ago)
Pash, I'm so so sorry.
― ailsa, Saturday, 21 June 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)
Oh no. Same here, that's awful.
― Mister Craig, Saturday, 21 June 2008 12:13 (seventeen years ago)
Oh my god, Pash, I'm so sorry! Will miss you terribly. But jesus...
― Masonic Boom, Saturday, 21 June 2008 12:27 (seventeen years ago)
All hearts going out to you, Pash, so sorry.
― G00blar, Saturday, 21 June 2008 12:52 (seventeen years ago)
Oh God, Pash. Thoughts and best wishes going out to you.
― emil.y, Saturday, 21 June 2008 15:26 (seventeen years ago)
Sorry for your terrible news, Pashmina. Nothing much more one can say, save perhaps that we'll all be thinking of you.
― the pinefox, Saturday, 21 June 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)
Well played guys, thought you were all brilliant.
I only ate 3 chickens and 1 sausage at the BBQ because I didn't want to miss on the bands.
I have some clips filmed on my camera - hope it sounds okay - will put them up soon!
― ken c, Monday, 23 June 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)
Hooray, I really enjoyed that. Think the Chemistry Experiment were probably my favourite of the day but everyone was great.
Also Ken's cover of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger totally r0x0red. Dr C satisfied Pinefoxian calls to "play some balls to the wall rock and roll" and I greatly enjoyed the Boss duets at the end.
― Matt DC, Monday, 23 June 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)
Sorry to not make it, got an emergency support call at work and didn't get out of the huge and sinister broadcasting organisation till 9pm. Hope all was groovy.
― Ed, Monday, 23 June 2008 10:27 (seventeen years ago)
It was kind of charming to observe how DC was so surprised at how much he liked the Boss covers.
DC was right about Gooblar, he did have some Costello about him.
A Nation Mourns tore the sails off that windmill.
― the pinefox, Monday, 23 June 2008 11:04 (seventeen years ago)
the chemistry experiement were awesome - and with added DRUM STICKS THROWING ROCK AND ROLL autorotation sounded rather beautiful too a nation mourns rocked and played so well pinefox was capotastic and shredded that guitar gooblar was super, and also extra bonus for singing "you fucked it up" in time with dude missing a penalty on the telly!!!!!
and OMG WTF ILX SUPERGROUP SINGING THE BOSS
― ken c, Monday, 23 June 2008 11:41 (seventeen years ago)
wish i'd been there - especially as i only live round the bloody corner now :-(
― CharlieNo4, Monday, 23 June 2008 11:41 (seventeen years ago)
omg forgot also red bull dozers were fucking immense, obv.
― ken c, Monday, 23 June 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)
they had the biggest audience so of course they were!
― ledge, Monday, 23 June 2008 11:43 (seventeen years ago)
red bull dozers were indeed fucking immense. chem ex were a lot more shambolic than they used to be... DRUM STICK IN THE DRUMMER'S EYE ROCK AND ROLL. Erm, I think I left soon after that, I was getting a sore neck from watching the tv and my friends wanted to go home, so sorry for not really getting into the spirit of ILX Lolrus festival. I ate barbecue though, which I've missed every other time I've been to an all-dayer at the Windmill. Goood work everyone, especially the shouty guy with bricks who rounded everyone up and got them inside so they could pay and buy drinks and such.
― Bocken Social Scene, Monday, 23 June 2008 11:47 (seventeen years ago)
Yes! Was brilliant day/night! Had a great time, and was well impressed by the high level of talent all around (m'self excluded, of course). Even managed to stay sober enough to get through my set! Would have liked to have seen those penalties, but what are you gonna do.
― G00blar, Monday, 23 June 2008 12:15 (seventeen years ago)
A very good festival I reckon - everyone was fantastic in a totally different way. The Red Bulldozers were superb fun and the best possible way to kick off the event - but more vocoder next time, Ken! The Chemistry Experiment were magnificent - flute, harmonies, bubbly keyboards and great melodies. Autorotation's two-basses, tons of effects, syn-drums and soaring vocals created a unique kind of funky psychedelia - very, very nice! And of course The Pinefox dipped into his collection of great songs with some very finely observed melancholia. Sadly I missed Gooblar,(Sorry, Gooblar!) as I had to hit the road for a v. early start today.
We enjoyed ourselves v much - a great audience helped of course, and the onstage sound was excellent.
― Dr.C, Monday, 23 June 2008 12:49 (seventeen years ago)
I missed the barbecue, boo.
Everybody was brilliant - I think I liked Autorotation best, for I am a sucker for *wubwubwub* noises and pretty singing. I enjoyed myself so much I almost moved to London so I didn't have to go home and miss Pinefox/G00blar, but was (wisely, I think) talked out of it.
― emil.y, Monday, 23 June 2008 12:54 (seventeen years ago)
You know, unless someone not in one of the bands posts to this thread, they're going to start calling us The Scene That Celebrates Itself.
― the pinefox, Monday, 23 June 2008 12:54 (seventeen years ago)
xp to emily
Met yr drummer the day before at a party and he was teaching all the kids how to drum despite being quite drunk. They were very impressed.
― Ned Trifle II, Monday, 23 June 2008 12:56 (seventeen years ago)
kids: "How does he do that whilst being quite drunk?"
― Mark G, Monday, 23 June 2008 13:00 (seventeen years ago)
It was the kids who were drunk - we are terrible parents.
― Ned Trifle II, Monday, 23 June 2008 13:07 (seventeen years ago)
Ned, really? Wow. You can't escape us! In a way I am not surprised, he once pwned us all at pool despite being so drunk he could barely stand and it being 5 in the morning. On the other hand, he once got thrown out of a venue for being too drunk BEFORE we had even played yet.
xpost, lols.
― emil.y, Monday, 23 June 2008 13:09 (seventeen years ago)
Yes, it's a terrifyingly small world. He knows my friend Andy whose b'day bash it was, and who was marginally drunker than him. Those north east boys can put it away and then get up the next day and do it again. Whereas I pass out for a week being a soft southern bastard.
― Ned Trifle II, Monday, 23 June 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)
It was a corking day. Ken was magnificent and started everything in the perfect manner and there was an alarmingly decent quality level throughout. I totally forgot the yard and ended up with cold bbq meats and finished off the spuds singlehandedly. Sorry we couldn't stay to the end, we got back to Nottingham at 2am well jollied though.
― Mister Craig, Monday, 23 June 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for sharing those pictures, people - I have taken the liberty of copying one or two to my computer. I hope you would not consider it impertinent if I now asked you to make the ones of me (which are only a couple in each case) Private to Friends / Family, so that any T, D or H can't come across them. Hope that's OK.
