And every night I rub a bit of Wet Garden Calming Lotion on my hands, it's very relaxing...
― Ned Trifle II, Friday, 18 April 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)
omg DIRT haha
i don't know that i've worn very unusual fragrances actually!
― Surmounter, Friday, 18 April 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)
I don't know if it's the same company (I assume it is) but they also make "Grass" and "Tomato" and as much as I wanted to hate it I found myself really liking Tomato.
Also, surmounter, you have years of unusual fragrance wearing to look forward to.

=P tomato, wow

Marc Jacob's Splash Cucumber which I tested the other day. Surprisingly FRESH.

The idea of smelling a certain way is fascinating. I don't think I have a sensitive nose, but I have vivid olfactory memories and recall.
Like, I could describe how my father smelled - and he's been dead for twenty years.
I'm very into ginger/lemon combinations in all aspects of life. And peppermint.
― aimurchie, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)
I got a sample of this Hermes fragrance that is supposed to smell like flowers and leather, and it actually DOES smell like flowers and leather.
― jessie monster, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)
I suppose pine tree essence might be considered unusual. That's the only thing I ever wear. That and cedar oil.
― libcrypt, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)
Yes, I smell like a rustic cabin closet.
― libcrypt, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)
ha ha you smell like a closet
― jessie monster, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)
Who doesn't love the smell of a cedar closet tho????
― libcrypt, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)
i have the Demeter Green Tea fragrance and i love it. i want Dirt now!
― jed_, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)
Just put yr linens on my head and I'll be happy.
I want to smell the flowers and leather! It's too bad ILX doesn't have a scratch and sniff application.
or maybe not.
― aimurchie, Friday, 18 April 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)
Mrs. Meyer's cleaning products make me feel a little bit kooky. I DO want my kitchen to smell like lemon/verbena!
I'm weird, tho - I like really intense scents. I mean, I also like the smell of gasoline.
Sorry to stray so far from the original question.
― aimurchie, Friday, 18 April 2008 18:02 (seventeen years ago)
it smells like a dominatrix trapped in an old lady's house. xp
― jessie monster, Friday, 18 April 2008 18:02 (seventeen years ago)
Dirt smells more like Peat really, I think. If you can imagine the smell when you dig some turf, then that is what its like. They do some sweetie ones but I think they smell a bit artificial, like...er...sweets. Wet garden is definitely my favourite it really is calming for some reason.
― Ned Trifle II, Friday, 18 April 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)
i like the idea of flowers and leather...
― Surmounter, Friday, 18 April 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)
For Londoners, there's quite a selection of the more obscure scents at Liberty. At least there was last time I was there. Some chocolate ones which were not good iirc.

one of my friends used to wear the demeter bonfire fragrance. it was like very lifelike, although it wore off quickly.
i think that the weirdest one i have is slatkin's fig and absinthe. it's "a deep, woodsy blend of absinthe and black fig infused with black currant, west Indian patchouli, and exotic kashmir woods with a hint of black licorice."
i really want the comme des garcons one that smells like tar and rubber.
― lauren, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)
"although it wore off quickly."
that definitely seems to be the way with those demeter fragrances.
― jed_, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:07 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, they're not very strong.
― lauren, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)
they are simple, subtle and singular. (according to the label.)
― aimurchie, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)
BPAL to thread for total domination in the "unusual scents" category
My favorite of theirs: DEATH CAP A lethal poison bundled up in a dainty, innocent little package that was oft times found in ancient witches’ flying ointments and astral projection balms. A warm, soft, ruddy scent, earthy and mild.
It smells like soft dirt, a little bit of greenery and maybe some coconut. Not really like mushrooms at all, at least not any that I've eaten.
― La Lechera, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:19 (seventeen years ago)
wow
i want it
― Surmounter, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)
probably Luctor et Emergo by People of the Labyrinths which has a huge cult following but basically smells like playdoh to me.
― homosexual II, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)
Lauren, luckyscent.com has samples available for order of all the Comme des Garcons scents if you just want to try them
― homosexual II, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)
yay! thanks for the tip.
― lauren, Friday, 18 April 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
I want to try this one:
Odeur 71 Eau de Toilette
by Comme des Garcons the scoop The ultimate anti-perfume. The notes are inspired by dust on a hot lightbulb, bamboo, metal, electricity and lettuce juice…no lie! But what does it smell like? Surprisingly, it's a completely wearable scent; metal and electricity manifest as the invigorating smell of ozone just before a storm, and the combination of we-don't-know-what makes for a familiar soapy freshness. Hot laundry right out of the dryer served up on your clean, sexy Xerox machine.

Dust on a hot lightbulb, bamboo, metal, electricity and lettuce juice.
Sigh. I love perfume so much.
cdg's calamus (sp?) is really nice, by the way.

The guy behind some of the Demeter stuff (inc. Dirt) has gone on to make his range called CB I Hate Perfume. Plenty of unusal stuff there (although not available in the UK sadly)...
Greenbriar 1968 sounds interesting for those who like a bit of leather.
This scent is a memory of my Grandfather, the sawmill that he owned and the stone house where he lived.
It is blended with Sawdust, Fresh Cut Hay, Worn Leather Work Gloves, Pipe Tobacco and a healthy amount of Dirt. There is also a faint whiff of cotton overalls covered in Axel Grease...
He can't get away from Dirt.
