I used to do both when I was younger, though I only did graffiti with other people, because I don't have proper skills for that myself.

Tuomas, Monday, 21 April 2008 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

I think stencil art also counts as graffiti, if you've done that.

Tuomas, Monday, 21 April 2008 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

I could never be arsed, could never think of anything witty enough, and tagging always looked like shit to me.

Pashmina, Monday, 21 April 2008 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

the more illustrative stuff always looked better to me.

when does graffiti become a mural? A. if it's a picture? B. if it's done with the permission of whoever owns the wall? it must be either A or B or possibly a combination of A & B.

Grandpont Genie, Monday, 21 April 2008 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

and no never did graffiti. Too scared of getting caught and the consequences thereof.

Grandpont Genie, Monday, 21 April 2008 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

In junior high, I spraypainted bullies' names around my neighborhood:

Brad F. was here!

I don't know if anyone ever got in trouble for that, but I sure hope so.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 21 April 2008 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

I wouldn't call that tags or graffiti though, as Tuomas intends the question.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 21 April 2008 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

i did this stencil but it's kinda fucked up

Cool, who's "Lucont"?

Tuomas, Monday, 21 April 2008 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

He failed to make much of an impact at Fulham under Chris Coleman and I understand he is playing somewhere back in the second tier of French football.

Matt DC, Monday, 21 April 2008 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

What are tags?

stevienixed, Monday, 21 April 2008 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

Tags are like this:

Graffiti I'd say is more like this:

I never did either, by the way. No talent for art, no desire to scrawl my name over things.

emil.y, Monday, 21 April 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

A handful of half-arsed tags when I was 16/17 just to be part of the gang.

chap, Monday, 21 April 2008 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Tags by definition are pretty half-ass.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 21 April 2008 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, I think they can look cool if they're well enough designed.

Tuomas, Monday, 21 April 2008 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

I drew on my desks a lot in elementary school, and many other things. We were on a field trip one time, passing by some tagged-up train cars, and my teacher said, "Look's like Abb13's been there!" Then she made that joke like EVERY DAY. "Did you see the trains today? That was Abb13!" Sheesh, alright. Back to drawing Garfield hanging himself.

Abbott, Monday, 21 April 2008 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

There's a thing written on one of the bus benches here, in that cholo tagging penmanship:

Ex-ter-mi-nate
Wheelchair fake
Skanky looking
Retard bitch ho

Cruel, but if you know the bus regular they are talking about, it's pretty amusing. (She fakes her need for a wheelchair and whines endlessly about clearly made-up shit and tries to beg folding money.)

Abbott, Monday, 21 April 2008 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

I wrote graffiti until I got arrested after doing a throw-up off of a freeway wall when I was 18. I still catch tags every now and then, but fuck going to jail.

Lolpez, Monday, 21 April 2008 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

You can get jail for that? I think in here painters, if caught, get massive bills, but I've never heard anyone getting anything worse for that.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

People ought to go to jail for it.

Super Cub, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

I corrected someone's spelling on a toilet wall once, does that count?

Borf is not his real name

Super Cub, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

Is that the guy who used to do those golf videos?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 08:37 (eighteen years ago)

One billion pounds

BORF

Okay, there are a few of his tags up in Foggy Bottom right now. I don't know if they're old or new. What a dick.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 08:59 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 26 April 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Never did, but I like looking at it if it's interesting

Other, Saturday, 26 April 2008 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe Emily thought I was serious when asking what tags are. I'm not Finish. ;-)

Plain labels with your handwritten tag is a great way to bomb. Cheaper than custom stickers, lasts longer than a sharpie, and each one is unique
