I need direction

Actually, I need advice/suggestions. (Actually, I usually do need direction, literally and metaphorically, but that's a whole other issue). Somewhere to eat and something to see within short walking distance of Gray's Inn Fields; afternoon rather than evening activities; lunch and something gallery-or-museum-y ideal. Any advice from metropolitans to northern bumpkin welcome, thank you.

[I mean I could suggest things but they'd probably be rubb. When are you coming down, anyway?]

[Interview Wednesday morning. Two sets of plans already fallen through for pm but thought I should use expenses train fare constuctively.]

A quick wander back up to Kings Cross will take you to the British Museum and the last couple of weeks of the excellent map exhibition (bonus points for freeness).

Doh - I was thinking of the British Museum as a good place to go too - the Great COurt is lovely. But then you would be far too near to where I work.

Nice place to eat if you were wandering to the British Museum would be the Hare & Tortoise in the Brunswick Centre. Lovely Malaysian Chicken Curry there a couple of weeks ago.

British Library it is - map exhibition looks kewl (and one of interviewers is geographer so possible bonus points) and AND there is a talk on Antarctica ("the shrinking continent") I can go to that eve; ergo it is fated that I visit.
