oops. Ironically, AK, ID, and OH have among the coolest designs. Excuse my clumsy typing/proofreading and click to see them.

Or you can see all fifty states at once here

dell, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

Maine

ciderpress, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)

Alaska got my vote

Montana, close second

Worst: New Hampshire

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

Montana, all day long.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:13 (seventeen years ago)

new hampshire is just tragic

ciderpress, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

If they had put Booji Boy's head inside the astronaut helmet on the Ohio quarter, Ohio all day long.

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

musical instruments + home state = winner

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:24 (seventeen years ago)

White Oak + State House in Annapolis = Winner

Hunt3r, Thursday, 24 April 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

ooh look, it's Texas! and a star!

Couldn't even throw the Alamo on there?

milo z, Thursday, 24 April 2008 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

yeah most of these are like clip art

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 24 April 2008 00:11 (seventeen years ago)

I like Georgia's a lot. "MODERATION."

But I voted for Wyoming. They know how to do it, just put that damned buckin' bronco on EVERYTHING. And it's a damned good buckin' bronco too.

I should get a tat of that sit. I miss Wyoming.

Abbott, Thursday, 24 April 2008 01:55 (seventeen years ago)

I always like to say this one is of a diagram of the blood system of the kidney:

Vermont, for the pastoral ideal.

White Oak + State House in Annapolis = Winner

-- B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:42 (Yesterday) Link

i understand the sentiment dogg but i hate our quarter!

mississippi is my favorite, but connecticut is SO CLOSE, and i think i like new mexico too...

69, Thursday, 24 April 2008 02:26 (seventeen years ago)

oh yeah and alaska is tight too definitely

69, Thursday, 24 April 2008 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

OHIO, BIRTHPLACE OF AVIATION. Suck on that, North Carolina! Nuthin beats the ASTRONAUT. Alaska's bear comes close, though...

kate78, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:16 (seventeen years ago)

Hooo-eee. There are some plug-ugly coins in that line up. Why do so many states think their state map is a thing of everlasting beauty?

I voted Montana. It takes cojones to advertise your state with a skull.

Aimless, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:43 (seventeen years ago)

i remember voting for the california one, but that's not the one i picked.

speaking of iowa...

http://cache.virtualtourist.com/1764283-Iowa_State_Flag-Iowa.gif

so is that eagle eating our freedoms and liberties?

msp, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:45 (seventeen years ago)

You can tell a state has nothing going for it if their quarter is just an outline of the state, the state flower/symbol, and the state motto/nickname. I'm talking to you Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, New Mexico and Pennsylvania!

kate78, Thursday, 24 April 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

Alaska for the win, but the North Dakota one reminds me of the old buffalo nickel so I voted for that.

Virginia would be my runner up, but they really should have just put their state flag on the coin...

http://www.50states.com/flag/image/nunst076.gif

A deep blue field contains the seal of Virginia with the Latin motto " Sic Semper Tyrannis" - "Thus Always to Tyrants". Adopted in 1776. The two figures are acting out the meaning of the motto. Both are dressed as warriors. The woman, Virtue, represents Virginia. The man holding a scourge and chain shows that he is a tyrant. His fallen crown is nearby.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 24 April 2008 04:32 (seventeen years ago)

I voted Wyoming for it's simplicity and drama. Also it's kind of an underdog state. The ones that suck most have multiple elements floating around with no relationship as if the state couldn't decide which image most typifies its identify, so they included all of them.

Super Cub, Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:05 (seventeen years ago)

still consistently amazed and disgusted virginia still has that motto

balls, Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:19 (seventeen years ago)

wow an actually good dell thread

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:21 (seventeen years ago)

i think im voting rhode island

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:21 (seventeen years ago)

The ones that suck most have multiple elements floating around with no relationship as if the state couldn't decide which image most typifies its identify, so they included all of them.

^ definitely this

Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming are pretty great overall.

Michigan, my home state, is terrible. 4/5ths of the Great Lake State is more like it. We have no right to any aspect of Lake Ontario.

joygoat, Thursday, 24 April 2008 05:49 (seventeen years ago)

Connecticut, the place trees grow on money.

suzy, Thursday, 24 April 2008 07:26 (seventeen years ago)

I like Idaho's the best; in fact I was inspired to do this poll yesterday after coming across one of theirs for the first time yesterday and admiring it.

Second for me would be Nevada, and third, Oklahoma!

dell, Thursday, 24 April 2008 14:25 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for Montana's Danzig coin. But some runnner's up.

Connecticut - It feels good to absent-mindedly rub with your thumb.
Arkansas - Omnipresent floating diamond intimidating the ducks.
Nevada - Like an MGM movie coming to life on your quarter.
Wisconsin - MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

South Dakota - Most presidents ever featured on piece of currency? I'll have to check out the back of a two-dollar bill to confirm.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 24 April 2008 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

i want a picture of like 30 presidents getting wasted together on the back of some money

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

I like how Georgia has an arse with a flag sticking out of it...IN MODERATION!

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

that's a peach, superman

Mr. Que, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

none of these are "tight"

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 24 April 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

I am willing to concede this to either (a) New Hampshire (the sympathy vote) or (b) Alaska (the scared-as-fuck of the bears vote).

If neither of those takes it, give me Maryland all day, motherfuckers.

B.L.A.M., Thursday, 24 April 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

Maine should get some credit for having cartoony "waves" shooting out of its lighthouse to illustrate illumination.

Nebraska and Arizona could also be included in this fun category.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 24 April 2008 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

The ones that suck most have multiple elements floating around with no relationship as if the state couldn't decide which image most typifies its identify, so they included all of them.

^ definitely this

except maybe for florida which is borderline psychedelic. "wau, those conquistadors are in for a surprise when the boom hits em"

sc shoulda just slapped the palmetto and crescent on there large and been done with it. and painted it indigo if possible. such a great flag.

Hunt3r, Thursday, 24 April 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

kentucky one looks great. nevada one feels like a big lie, should have gone w/ an exotic dancer holding a full house (queens over jacks) and riding a flamingo

6335, Thursday, 24 April 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

I like how some states went out of their way to go against stereotype. No gambling in Nevada, no potatoes in Idaho, no Mormons in Utah, and who the hell knew that Helen Keller was the state bird of Alabama?

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 24 April 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

Helen was also a total commie! Haha!

kate78, Thursday, 24 April 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

the other two utah designs that were on the ballot

http://www.quarterdesigns.com/proposed/utah/utquarter2.jpg

um holy shit snowboarding!

69, Thursday, 24 April 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, wtf happened to my poll, MAANN????

dell, Thursday, 1 May 2008 00:25 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

oh ffs, there are now three US quarter designs featuring a buffalo on the reverse. if you add in the commemorative Buffalo silver dollar, the Jefferson nickel with the buffalo reverse, and the buffalo gold bullion coin, you've got six cases of the US Mint biting its own steez over the past 10 years.

I don't understand why the US mint keeps churning out all these new designs when there's so little imagination in them. the presidential dollar coins? pfft, they gave those away at Shell stations 40 years ago, except they were free and you could win prizes with them! the national park quarter series, with one design for each US state and territory? wow, state quarters all over again, but with 500% more eagles and pointy rock formations. the new silver bullion coins? they are literally giant-sized versions of the national park quarters, and they even say "quarter dollar". I don't even know what pennies and nickels are doing these days, but I bet it's something boring.
