i always see this used dismissively for left-wing stuff. but how often do ppl really manage to get across their viewpoint to the other side?

it's more 'they didn't sway the unconvinced/floating voters' who determine elections, rather than, 'they didn't win over people who dislike them'.

i guess i'm thinking abt this in the context of musicians or comedians who try + be political + some ppl admire it and others go 'oh they're just preaching to the converted'
