Even though I really don't need one, I rarely phone, I am so fucking tempted to get one. :-(

My plan (ATT for a 3GS iphone) has run out and I am fed up with paying so much. Is there anywhere else I can look before I sign up again for another two years? What is this I hear about jailbreaking iPhones and using T-Mobile? Verizon is just the same as ATT now right?

probably going to be dispiriting to see this bumped & it not be me answering your question. this is just a dumb apple question based on all the price announcements from last week; is it going to be cheap, soon, to just buy an iphone, separate from contracts, etc? i'm in the uk + visiting the us soon & wondered if buying one/unlocking it etc would be worthwhile or just a pain in the ass.

how cheap is cheap? if you know someone with an expensive tarriff they might have an upgrade option they don't need in which case you can offer whatever for them to get an iphone for you

ah not really cheap, really (i found this http://www.slashgear.com/iphone-4s-3gs-4-off-contract-pricing-revealed-04185471/ <- answers). i know nothing about phones & have a piece of shit phone, but kinda wanted to join the iphone revolution, & had been vaguely tuned in enough to the coverage to hear $99 bandied around, oblivious to its contractual strings. it's more like $300 though. & i will probably save my favour-from-monied-friend card for something else.
