ITT: UK Local Government Elections 2008 - ?

To save cluttering up the London mayoral thread with the inconsequential chit-chat of those of us consigned to the provinces, why not?

I love a good vote on a sunny morning, for some bizarre reason. Not that my defiant X in the Labour box is gonna count for much, I fear. Seeing as how they're already struggling, and only a third of the seats of most councils are up for grabs today, just how badly can Labour get beat? And will it change anything in the parliamentary party, or are they already blinking, immobilized before the headlights of Cameron's Tomorrow-Belongs-to-Me juggernaut?

They're going to get fucking hammered.

It's weird though, I like local elections a lot, I think it's because the further down the tree you go, the happier I feel about voting Labour.

Local councillors always have the option of distancing themselves from the parliamentary party, or chumming up to them, depending on how said party's doing in the polls. Ours seem a pretty undistinguished bunch, but the current Lib Dem council are spectacularly inept, contrary and pseudo-Tory.
