the music scene in NYC has been so desperately dead since 2002 or so that I think people are grasping at whatever they can get. All the former big NYC bands this decade have moved to Philly, Berlin, etc

i.e., "New York is so OVER, guys"

sex, drugs, new, weird sensations and experiences, upsetting challenging ideas... that's fun. listening to the drywall-flavored music made by the blandoids who've come to dominate NYC and drive out all the really good bands/artists/writers/etc. isn't my idea of fun.

i.e., "I'm into wild trangressive avant-garde stuff, not your BORING BOURGEOIS VALUES"

I listen to it and I suddenly own a condo walking distance to Park Slope and I drive a Volvo.

i.e., "I decry your middle-class comfort"

Nothing better than seeing some drone out in a South Slope warehouse while toasted, nicely toasted

(Note that SOUTH Slope is OK and non-mocked, due to some form of small-differences hipsterism)

These clips don't show the realness of how the Scene and The New Dance Show came about. I got footage of Cheryl People, Yvonne Gooden, Lawanada. This was back when u actually had to DANCE. Dudes keep focusing on the dudes but there are gay guys everywhere and not all of them were gay. Who cares? That sh** was off the chain. This can't be recaptured.

The New Dance Show has some awesome clips, like dudes still dressing like they're in the 70s dancing to Cybotron. It's too bad Youtube pulled most of the clips down

there are relatively few genuine magnetic avant eccentric people who just do their thing and who would be creative and fashion-freaky even if they lived in a goddamn cave. and there are always the people who follow suit less convincingly and they're not necessarily bad people but they're not really worth listening to.

foodswings is selling vegan skittles! apparently in europe they don't use gelatin because of mad cow fears, and therefore a bunch of products that aren't vegan in the u.s, are vegan in europe. yet another reason to move.
