THere was a strange air outside tongiht. I let my dog out for the last time of the day and a thurnerstorm began. Lightsing struck a tree and my dog ruan off into the woods. I chased after him. Walking down a a path I had never seen before, I came upon a clearing with a strange rock formation.
An old man appeared behind a flash iof light. he handed me a magic can of PZBR and sad it ome " dirnk this and you willj gsee jwhow gjiwer'
and so i drain kof it. and then my jeans turned skjiny. you know, like really kinsny. and i got like this realyl cool fitted flanne ;l shirt and shit. and he said' Ogo out and protect the music venues from closing because the deaprtment of health are bieng like, total douches man"
and so there i am. who will join me in this fight?

Aw, man, this was ruined by acknowledgment: Burt Stanton has ALWAYS been exactly the kind of hipster who's constantly complaining about "hipsters" being lame
― nabisco, Friday, 2 May 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)
I mean, just some greatest hits from one thread:
the music scene in NYC has been so desperately dead since 2002 or so that I think people are grasping at whatever they can get. All the former big NYC bands this decade have moved to Philly, Berlin, etc
i.e., "New York is so OVER, guys"
sex, drugs, new, weird sensations and experiences, upsetting challenging ideas... that's fun. listening to the drywall-flavored music made by the blandoids who've come to dominate NYC and drive out all the really good bands/artists/writers/etc. isn't my idea of fun.
i.e., "I'm into wild trangressive avant-garde stuff, not your BORING BOURGEOIS VALUES"
I listen to it and I suddenly own a condo walking distance to Park Slope and I drive a Volvo.
i.e., "I decry your middle-class comfort"
Nothing better than seeing some drone out in a South Slope warehouse while toasted, nicely toasted
(Note that SOUTH Slope is OK and non-mocked, due to some form of small-differences hipsterism)
i like msuic that meesses with my feelings, or makes me want to stick my dick in thigs. vampire wekeend makes me want to go to connecticut and say 'hi' to my aunt and uncle while watching the 4th of july aprade down mainstreat quietly and respectfully
hipsters repeat themselves when drunk
remember a time ... when four scumbags from Queens could make it big in New York, or a nerdy working class art school drop out
"Remember"
― nabisco, Friday, 2 May 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'm conflicted about Burt here, because a true hipster would never actually admit to being one, yet they love nothing more than moaning about other "hipsters" and how they are lame and middle class or whatever.

1. Scene police love it 6 up, 1 down hate it A person who thinks that everyone else is trying to become scene. May make sly remarks to friends as if they are making fun of another person's style. This person may think they were the original scene queen, or the one who started the trend in their area. These clips don't show the realness of how the Scene and The New Dance Show came about. I got footage of Cheryl People, Yvonne Gooden, Lawanada. This was back when u actually had to DANCE. Dudes keep focusing on the dudes but there are gay guys everywhere and not all of them were gay. Who cares? That sh** was off the chain. This can't be recaptured.
― jhøshea, Friday, 2 May 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)
The New Dance Show has some awesome clips, like dudes still dressing like they're in the 70s dancing to Cybotron. It's too bad Youtube pulled most of the clips down
― burt_stanton, Friday, 2 May 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)
there are relatively few genuine magnetic avant eccentric people who just do their thing and who would be creative and fashion-freaky even if they lived in a goddamn cave. and there are always the people who follow suit less convincingly and they're not necessarily bad people but they're not really worth listening to.
