R. Cook landslide

How many of them are now dead?

Robin Cook, Mo Mowlam, Donald Dewar?

James Mitchell, Friday, 2 May 2008 10:51 (sixteen years ago) link

This should go to Robin cook or Dr Mowlam.

Ed, Friday, 2 May 2008 10:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Ron Davies, where are you now?

Neil S, Friday, 2 May 2008 10:59 (sixteen years ago) link

3 on that list are now dead, and those 3 are probably my top choices.

Neil S, Friday, 2 May 2008 11:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Chris Smith was a good guy.

Matt DC, Friday, 2 May 2008 11:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Is he dead?

Neil S, Friday, 2 May 2008 11:02 (sixteen years ago) link

No, but was out of the Cabinet by 2001 I think. Him and Frank Dobson have spent the intervening years having a go at the government in the way former ministers generally do.

Also, a bit part player in the current Ken vs the Evening Standard wars, as it was his party where Ken went all "yoooooooou are a concentration camp guard!" at Oliver Fiengold.

Ja, definite cosign on this. Went for Mowlam, as the other two have (had, I suppose) more pronounced downsides.

No one gave us more rofflesome moments along the way than Prescott.

Matt DC, Friday, 2 May 2008 11:49 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought Irvine was dead too?

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 2 May 2008 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

My vote goes to Mowlam - the only one who never sold out.

Matt DC, Friday, 2 May 2008 12:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Dead cabinet ministers are best, tho Donald Dewar's Mr. Reasonable act always irritated me a bit

Tom D., Friday, 2 May 2008 12:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Irvine's still very much alive:

My vote goes to Cook, for his excoriating resignation speech over Iraq.

Neil S, Friday, 2 May 2008 12:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Saw Cook give a speech at the LSE shortly after his resignation, and what's really stuck in my head is how dryly funny he was.

When I grow up, I want to be a Minister without Portfolio. Or be named "The Lord Richard". Fricking awesome
