in their game against west brom they had 2 players injured and 3 sent off, which meant they had only 6 players on the pitch. the game had to be abandoned. they were losing 3-0. unless the fa award the game to west brom, they will have avoided losing 3 points. a good way to get out of losing - get all your players sent off on purpose?

This is something which occurred to me when this ridiculous rule came in. Like six men can't play against eleven? Like it wouldn't be fantastic spectacle.

That said getting men sent off means they will also be unavailible for future matches - meaning you will be seriously under strength in the next couple of games. And what if the ref twigs it. He'll keeppeople on as punishment.

Ah.....the team would be caught so easily and the FA would go to town on them.

from what I saw a couple of the players just walked off, saying they were injured. Three points to the baggies is the only sensible course.

West Brom manager interviewed on Saturday telly, said if his side not awarded the 3 points, he will simply pull off his team in future every time his side are 2 goals down with minutes to go. Only one sensible outcome here, obv.

It's always funny when managers talk about pulling off their players. Well, to my juvenile mind at least.

Jonnie, Monday, 18 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

seriously, just last week i was talking to meg about what would happen if you had half you team sent off, as i had no idea (the fact that she's a gooner is *entirely* co-incidental in this matter ;)), and here it is happening, saw megson on central sports spesh yesterday and he was spitting blood...

also, is this a record for bringing on two subs and then having them both sent off in less than two minutes??

nine months pass...
Look what the randomiser gave me! Hello Liverpool fans!

sure "randomiser".

leave michael wells alone

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

ha, timing!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

That's another tong I have little or no love for then. Although pete is ok I guess. There must be some great potential tabloid headlines if he starts really banging in goals "Svenn:Tonge is an Essential Selection"

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

'starts'?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I suppose I meant if he did actually go to Liverpool or a club where he might be picked for England. I still think Liverpool will win this tie.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

You're probably right that they'll win, and I have no special fondness for Sheffield United (especially their manager Colin Thingy, ex-GAWS and all that). Last night's result was funny though, and it was also amusing to see your M. Houllier spluttering about that tackle on Kirkland.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

It's still no less depressing seeing them lose again.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

leave michael wells alone

yes, only gareth is allowed to mercilessly take the piss out of me.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

It couldn't be less depressing!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Where's cabbage when you need some red solidarity, I bet 20 euro the other night with a Man U supporting mate that Liverpool win more trophies than Man U. I still think I have a chance though I was a bit tipsy when I proposed it.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 January 2003 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey yeah and why IS there a Sheffield Wednesday?!

I may well post this qn on every thread until I get an ansibleanswer

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 9 January 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

The Owls were formed by players from the Sheffield Wednesday Evening Cricket Club, I think.
