Today I gave my toddler (two in a week's time) a corner of my toast which had a small amount of Marmite on it. This is the first time he's eaten it and by the 'yums' that emerged I'd say he enjoyed it. It was only a small amount and lightly spread on the toast anyway, so I thought nothing of it.
However my wife thought that children under a certain age can't have it for some reason. I've checked on the Marmite website and Wiki and can find nothing about it, and probably the salt content would make it prohibitive. The Marmite site said a serving amount of 2g for children, but not of any age. Obviously there's no allergic reaction to yeast - he's been eating toast for quite a while now. So, should I allow my boy to eat a little bit of Marmite?

yeah, my kids had it at nursery. We don't have it at home as one of us hates the very essence of it.

If I remember, the only problem is that it has a really high salt content. But in moderation it should be fine. DIDN@T DOOOO ME ANYYY HGARM

Have given Vegemite to my son since he was about 18 months old. No harmful effects yet detected.

Marmite is fine for over-1s. My little 14-month-old loves it, especially Marmite-flavoured cheese.

Thanks to everyone for confirming this.
I'm sure my boy will be very happy with the results! Cheers.

the only things not allowed between ages 1 and 2, according to my daughters pediatrician, are egg yolks, peanut oil and honey.

Be warned, popular culture has taught me it can go both ways.

the Nazis apparently injected Marmite into a pregnant woman's bloodstream and reported no ill effects when the baby was born.
