Use this thread to discuss Gareth Barry, Dimitar Berbatov, Samuel Eto, Diego, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and everyone else who is being linked with every single team.

On the tube on the way home on Friday (beer in hand natch) I overheard heard a guy talking about his girlfriend who works in the Arsenal shop who was recently told by her supervisor to remove all of the Hleb shirts and other merch from the shop floor. Off to Barca apparently.

joaquin to everton for 10m would be a another great moyes transfer coup, but as to why liverpool/spurs/chelsea would just let it happen i'm confused.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 8 May 2008 11:29 (seventeen years ago)
If Berbatov goes, hopefully it'll be abroad.
Spurs'll be more Spanish than Liverpool.
― jel --, Thursday, 8 May 2008 15:48 (seventeen years ago)
Berbatov will end up at Milan I think, Italy seems a good place for him. I will lol heartily if Fabregas goes to Real, but I don't think he will.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 8 May 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)
i think berbatov to inter is a good fit. i am torn between wanting to use the money to sign a villa or othersuch big name replacement or using it to strengthen midfield/left back and other areas that clearly need it and letting bent have a crack for the full season.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 8 May 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)
It'd be funny if Spurs re-signed Freddie Kanoute.
Fabregas must go to Real!
― jel --, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)
Cesc finds Spain boring. He's staying.
― Upt0eleven, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
Doesn't look like there'll be much of a sales bonanza from any relegation threatened clubs this year. Anyone fancy Mario Melchiot?
― Matt DC, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)
Spurs could buy Dave Kitson, just coz he's a fan and whatnot.
― jel --, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)
kanoute, like defoe, was doing a good job for us and probably shouldn't have been sold to begin with.
i think the two south americans at wigan are attracting interest, and i'd be surprised if mcfadden stays too long at birmingham.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:13 (seventeen years ago)
Kanoute was great when he arrived but most people were frustrated by his laziness and poor goal record by the time he left. Defoe was comfortably outplaying him every week and Robbie Keane was mostly on the bench in them days.
Perhaps I wouldn't have replaced him with Gregorsz Raziak though.

Faddy for Celtic! (this is an old rumour, and one I've just decided to resurrect on a whim, mostly because I'd rather have him than Samaras)
the only Celtic one I've heard is a continuing old one about John Arne Riise being on his way (this alternates between Riise and Sami Hyppia depending on who you talk to, but the Riise one seems to be growing some legs)
― ailsa, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)
Faddy's wage demands are a bit much for a guy who couldn't hold down a regular place for Everton
― Tom D., Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)
Ah, but if you get shot of the wages demands of guys who can't hold down a regular place at Celtic (hi dere Gravesen, Riordan, Balde) then we can afford him!
― ailsa, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)
Is it certain that Berbatov's leaving Spurs?
― Michael White, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)
In pub once, I was saying that McLeish going to Birmingham was a good thing because he'd relegate them and free up McFadden to join Celtic at long last and was shouted down, "Don't want McFadden... luxury player... too many players like him already at the club" etc
― Tom D., Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)
He might go for that big money move to Middlesbrough instead though.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:27 (seventeen years ago)
West Ham are always in need of a pointless striker or three they will never use.
Pot. Kettle. Black and White.
― Tom D., Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)
leave mah Gareth Barry alone, you infighting-wracked Scousers
― MPx4A, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:40 (seventeen years ago)
Ah come on, you sell Barry, you get Steve Sidwell plus another £10 million to spend on some Bosnian defenders.

Possible targets for Pompey:
John Mensah - cover at Centre-Back for Sol and Distin. Ghana International.
Peter Crouch - to partner Defoe in a new Pompey strike force. However this afternoon Liverpool have apparently slapped a 15 Million price tag on him.
Jonas "Spiderman" Gutierrez - can play Left / Right Wing - Argie at Real Mallorca - been tracked by Pompey for over 2 years
others linked:
Younes "Spurs Signed me for over 7 Million, but Ramos doesn't rate me" Kaboul - Pompey to pick up for a knock down 3 Million? as a squad player
John Arne Riise - Left back. Left Back is an area Pompey need to improve on.
Toulouse midfielder, Moussa Sissoko - 18 year old apparently the new Patrick Viera. Juventus are also interested.
Nathan Dyer - right-winger. Out of contract at the stripy so called Saints
Possible exits for Pompey:
A key player could be sacrificed to bring in finance to land a top striker. There is paper talk of Nico Kranjcar to Arsenal for 12 / 13 Million.

Following on from this, Jô was then said to have a bust up with national team coach Dunga and has said he will not play for Brazil again, until Dunga steps down. However Dunga has stated that he will help in any form, writing letters or otherwise to the Home Office to ensure that Jô gets a work permit for his impending transfer to Everton FC. If this is impending I will go on Tesco online to ensure that the magical £18 million pound funds are available.

does anyone know anything about Jo? does he have the shortest name in football history? is an unproven striker really where Everton should be dropping their transfer budget?
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)
also: Louis Saha
will be brilliant next season at some 2nd/3rd tier Prem club (rumour:Wham) y/n?

Apparantly, Steve Mclaren is going to be the new manager of Dutch FC Twente. He's been spotted in Enschede this week.
Now tell me: Twente all season played sparkling, attacking football. It got them a ticket for the Champions League (3rd round), beating Ajax in the play-offs. Surely, when you want to play attacking football, McLaren's not the man you want, right?

chaki to Juventus, £10million plus Chiellini. You heard it here first.

Any thoughts on the McLaren move to Twente, Dom?
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 29 May 2008 10:13 (seventeen years ago)
He's got the job because he got another team to a European final. Worse managers have parachuted into better jobs with less achievements before. Isn't that right, Avram?
