You had the attic all to yourself, yeah?

Built before the presidency of John Quincy Adams, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in the heart of Brookfield?s Historic District this fabulous Federalist Colonial has witnessed history. Happily, it has also enjoyed frequent updates and now embodies all the best of 21st Century living. The three fireplaces, two stairways, full bath in the master bedroom and meticulously kept professional decor are a few of the amenities often sought in much newer and higher priced homes. The location is hard to beat. Walk to the library, the park, Historical Society, historic churches and buildings. Brookfield Center is also a short drive to the town?s commercial corridor with easy access to I-84; on to trains, planes and more automobiles heading to Westchester, lower Fairfield, NYC, or Hartford. The small town ambiance is hard to beat. Watch the Memorial Day Parade from behind the picket fence and entertain friends afterward in the private, level back yard, near the barn. They will admire your garden. The oversized eat in kitchen, formal dining room and large family room make entertaining inside a delight as well. Isn?t it wonderful how a crackling fire can make even a large family room feel warm and cozy. The ?bones? are great. 200 amp electrical, new flues in the fireplace, some new carpets, updated kitchen counters and master bath cover important infrastructure needs. Whether you are an antique lover or just looking for a great place to live, this is it!Approximately 2550 sq. ft. on .31 acresStyle: Antique, ColonialFull Basement and BarnSpa/hot tubMaster bedroom is 15X13.5Master bedroom has full bathLiving room is 15 X 14Dining room is 17 X 14Family room is 30 X 14Eat In Kitchen is 30 X 13Chestnut and Pine wide board floorsThree Fireplaces: Dining room, Family room, Living roomHeat: Forced air, OilInterior: Walk up attic, wet bar, window treatments, walk-out basement, Exterior: Stone walls, picket fence, level lot, Elementary School: Center/HuckMiddle School: WhisconierHigh School: Brookfield

scott seward, Thursday, 8 May 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

hah this house doesnt look new englandy enough lets put a buggy in the yard

jhøshea, Thursday, 8 May 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

yeah that little prison window on the uppermost floor is a nice touch
when I was a kid I thought those octagonal attic windows were neato because they weren't boring and rectangular but now I think they look atrocious
I guess the lesson here is that attic windows on the facade are problematic

The oversized eat in kitchen

no fatties allowed in dining room?

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 8 May 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

skot, i did a fair amount of growing up in a small white new england cottage with a black pitched roof and a white gingerbread fence and red front door with accompanying barn/garage

so this thread is making me very nostalgic

That's a nice house!

Blimey $499,000 dollars, that's about £250,000! You can just about buy an okay-ish flat for that here!
