See I know this guy who..............

So I've begun to realise that the day I was introduced to my older brothers friend Phil, last summer, was an important day in my life. He's a DJ and since then what started as him getting us into his club night for free, has developed into total free stuff mania. Also we kind of started supporting him as his career was beginning to take off, so he gots to keep it real. Really though I guess because he's just as much a friend of mine as of my brothers at this point.

But I mean, I could never ever ever afford to be going to all the things I've been to if it wasn't for Phil. Jon Carter about 4 times, Darren Emerson, Billy Nasty, Dave Clarke tonight, David Holmes on Saturday for the opening of a superclub. Orbital on Saturday week in the same place.

But I digress. The point of this thread is for you to talk about a person you know who gets you free stuff, or other handy "connections" you have that work out well for you, like if you're shagging your boss or something or your Dad is Paul McCartney. er....no seriously though, WHO do you know?

Food examples particularly welcome. for some reason.

My mum. She's a film agent and gets me into film premieres, mainly. And she usually has top seats, so while westlife are in the gods, I'm snuggling up with Fergie and Penelope Cruz :-)

My pop got me my really cushy job. (Darling, please fluff my pillow, would you? And flip, also - I need to stay cool.)

The guy who builds my basses got me into the Frankfurt Musikmesse on the trade-only days -- which is very cool, as the public days feature AWESOME CHOPSMONSTERS demonstrating the latest AWESOME ROCK MACHINE at extreme volume, surrounded by a crowd of thousands. Eek.

Not on first name basis with anyone famous (well, yet), but I know plenty of people who do good things on their own and who know people themselves. This has helped in terms of music acquisition, I've found.

Cool......that's exactly the kind of food example I was thinking of.

Ronan, Monday, 18 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it helps that he's my housemate.

I no longer have sympathy for your broke state, Mr. Hand, knowing that you are FEASTING gloriously every night. Punk.

Does this mean I can't borrow $20?

Being friends with label bosses and other bands tends to get you a lot of free CDs and records, which is nice. Free gigs sometimes too!
