My therapist is moving away and I feel even more like Bradley Chalkers than I have before in my entire life and that kid is basically me. So I guess I have to buy her a shower curtain now.

I think this is my favorite book.

I remember nothing about this book other than that I read it - though not as funny as the Wayside books, I was disappointed to find.

A lot of his early books were just fucking depressing.

the Wayside School books and Holes were probably my favorite books back in elementary school. i don't think i ever read this one though, but i remember Holes being pretty intense and really good for a childrens book

very dark book -- or at least it seemed like it to 4th-grade me. the touches of sweet whimsy (the stuffed animals that bradley talked to) just made the kid's predicament all the sadder and more believable.

Beverly Cleary & Louis Sachar were my literature from 1st through 4th grade

two weeks pass...

A Sachar spotting:

The Los Angeles Dodgers may have been on the road yesterday in New York, but there was still an all-star lineup on the field of Dodger Stadium. Noted children’s authors Judy Blume, Louis Sachar, Polly Horvath, Christopher Paolini, Kate Klimo, Marjorie Priceman, Marc Brown, and Judy Sierra participated in Random House Children’s Books Saturday night cocktail reception for the BEA.

...

The baseball-themed event was embraced by all the authors, some of whom even wore baseball caps....Sachar wore a San Francisco Giants hat, which made several people laugh. Why? He explained that he just couldn’t resist wearing his favorite team’s hat in the stadium of its worst rival.
