Do Microwave-Only meals exist

I have a bunch of ready meals here that need to be eaten, and i've been warned that they HAVE to be microwaved or they'll be dangerous to eat. I'm not going to buy a microwave oven just to eat some nutritionally balanced paella.

What's the deal here. I can oven cook this... right? heat cooks everything, surely!

hahaha, who warned you? that's really odd

My girlfriend warned me. She's in hospital for a bit so i get to eat her fridge empty. She was very insistent that oven cooking was a big no-no

my microwave is kind of a sarcastic prick

I pushed the "POPCORN" button and when it was done it said "ENJOY YOUR MEAL"

You can cook most microwave stuff in the oven - transfer it from the original package to an oven-safe dish or pan that's about the same size as the original box, cover, bake at 350 deg F for 15-20 min if not frozen or for 30-45 minutes if frozen. Stir once or twice during the cooking time to see how things are going.

maybe it's the PACKAGING only...?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 18:36 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, you generally don't want to bake plastic and coated cardboard in your regular oven.

Jaq, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

right =)

That'll do me, into the oven it goes!

As a stude I cooked one of those Bird's Eye microwave roast beef dinners in the oven (it said you could on the box) and the plastic tray melted everywhere and made a foul, chemical-smelling mess. Chippy tea, that night.

I guess somebody a bit more litigious made a similar mistake, which is why the word OVEN doesn't appear anywhere on my ready meal packaging.

Though i dunno why they couldn't write "take it out of the box" in the instructions.

Leave a note for your girlfriend to let us know if the oven cooking killed you

But....but....why in the world would you WANT to eat MREs?

libcrypt, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ Only 4.99 with a pint of Fosters or your choice of soft drink.

Bodrick III, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

Probably more useful in a toothpaste tube, tho, since you can squirt in mouth as you drive yr tank over a road mine.

Them're like 4800 calories each, right?
