how important is this to you? for like friends and family, to reach out to you on your birthday?
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:03 (seventeen years ago)
i'm bad about it when it comes to ppl i'm not very close with. but i'm generally pretty good with close friends and family. or someone reminds me. haha
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:07 (seventeen years ago)
but i think i'm pretty sensitive to people not remembering mine. like if it's my best friend and i get the one-day-late thing, i'm really not too excited about that.
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:14 (seventeen years ago)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SURMOUNTER!
― jaymc, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:17 (seventeen years ago)
LOL ok thanks but that's really not what i'm doing. but i am pissed cuz my girl like, just didn't get in touch with me. and it was easy for her to remember cuz her birthday's tomorrow and we had been talking. but then she pulled a "belated birthday!" i'm mad but i feel silly.
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)
and the "belated!" was on gmail! at least TEXT ME
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)
I don't mind if people forget my birthday, in fact I don't even bother to celebrate it. I find it's such a s-t-r-a-i-n to have to say "oh on nth of x month, we're all going to et together and enjoy ourselves!", because it does put a lot of pressure on people, this kind of "enforced good time".
― snoball, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)
yeah i kind of agree. but also bday parties are just an excuse for people to get together -- like i always appreciate it when someone has one, cuz i just get to party.
but i'm not even talking party, i'm talking TEXT.
...
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)
I'd be pissed too. Spouses/SO's shouldn't be forgetting birthdays.
― Rock Hardy, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:34 (seventeen years ago)
well i meant "my girl" as in my bestest girlfriend of the moment. not like, my boyfriend who was lovely, read me poetry and bought me a beautiful shirt!!
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:35 (seventeen years ago)
but it's funny to think of me as having a "my girl" in that sense
ha
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:36 (seventeen years ago)
"enforced good time" wtf?!
mine was forgotten/ignored this year and i was all revving myself up to be really pissed about it but turns out I wasnt
― sunny successor, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)
Em's kind of rubbish at birthdays. Well, rubbish at mine. She remembers it, but always... gives away what she's got me way before, or something. But it doens't really bother me cos I'm not really arsed about birthdays. If someone you don't expect to remember remembers, that's nice. Otherwise... meh.
― Scik Mouthy, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)
(xpost) Well, I mean that the pressure to have a good time, to not be a party pooper, can actually cause you to have a miserable time. For anybody really, but particularly if it's your birthday, and on the day you feel a bit under the weather and would rather do it some other time, but you feel like you can't let other people down and have to put on a happy face.
― snoball, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)
yea i get it. i'm bad being the center of attention. but i still like for ppl to remember.
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)
oh, gotcha. yeah that sucks. xp
― sunny successor, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:07 (seventeen years ago)
i was a bit more bothered about this this year but not heard a word from my Dad or two v old friends from school days whose 30ths i attended late last year. sod the lot of 'em then.
― blueski, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)
I've been having dumb recurring dreams that either I forgot or everyone else forgot my wedding. And last night's was like "Oh man, everyone forgot my wedding." *looks at date on wristwatch* "AND: it's my birthday! Everyone forgot my birthday!"
My fucking god, am I ten years old?
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:10 (seventeen years ago)
The forget-the-birthday fear is inextricably tied up with this guy in my mind:

"Not that it matters anyway..."
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:12 (seventeen years ago)
i get kinda butthurt if people that i want to remember my birthday don't
― J0rdan S., Monday, 19 May 2008 19:12 (seventeen years ago)
I'm good at keeping up with bdays. If yr my friend and I learn when yr bday is, I'll know it for life! It's my excuse to bake cupcakes a lot, pretty much.

"Oh wait." "Uh."
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)
like some dudes i was close with in high school didn't even tell me happy birthday on facebook so i figure it's a sign that we aren't really that tight anymore
― J0rdan S., Monday, 19 May 2008 19:14 (seventeen years ago)
ramzi was there a thread for your birthday on here? if not, happy (belated) birthday dude
― J0rdan S., Monday, 19 May 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)
My dad kindly forgot my birthday 2 years running, this year he remembered. it really didn't feel right accepting it.
― not_goodwin, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:24 (seventeen years ago)
thanks jordan!
yeah my whole family forgot this year. yup, so all you dads out there? don't forget your kids' birthdays.
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
Families are the ones whose JOB it is to remember! That said I always call my mom two days before hers actually is, bcz I have the numbers '23' and '21' confused, apparently. Not as bad as the time I made her a card for her 20th anniversary and it turns out that was last year and this was actually her 21st.
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)
Families' job (immediate family) is also to get butthurt about forgetting birthdays. (Well, this was how I was raised anyway.)
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)
ya -- last mothers day i called a week early. still called!
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)
see but i can't b like you, abbott. i need to like KNOW YOU to remember your birthday, i can't just hear the date. i have friends who can do that, it's always frightening.
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)
i've become so reliant on facebook re: remembering ppl's birthdays
― J0rdan S., Monday, 19 May 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)
i don't even know the date of my best friend's bithday, come to think of it
I have to ask everyone every year (except the fams) when their birthday is. Oh, and I know John's, and I know his sister's bcz hers is the same as mine.
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:03 (seventeen years ago)
It would have been my dad's 64th today. My mom's 64th was yesterday, and I fell asleep last night before I could call.
― suzy, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:11 (seventeen years ago)
Always creepy when people you don't think would remember do - like a barber saying 'isn't it your birthday on thursday?' or something. I guess some people are good at that stuff.
― dowd, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)
Can't imagine getting seriously grieved at someone for not remembering. A little grumpy, maybe. On the other hand, I love it when people do remember, and would feel pretty damn blue if the whole world forgot.
― contenderizer, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)
eh. it just means noone thinks about you.
― sunny successor, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)
Sometimes not being thought about is for the best.
― Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)
exactly.
― sunny successor, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)
My mum said "you're 39 this year aren't you?" i swear i nearly smacked her one!
she's only known me all my life!
― not_goodwin, Monday, 19 May 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)
are you not 39?
― Surmounter, Monday, 19 May 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)
no, 35 and i don't look that old.
― not_goodwin, Monday, 19 May 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)
I think getting annoyed at bday being forgotten depends on whether or not you're the type to remember other peoples bdays - other than immediate fam, i tend to forget, and i don't care if others remember or not. I love birthdays though, so make a big deal out of other peoples if i know about it, and love receiving teh birthday wishes. It doesn't mean i care about the person any less if i forget their birthday, just that my brain is no sponge. So you angry people, maybe mention your birthday in passing a week out from the event, save forgetful loved ones from feeling like shite.
― milko, Monday, 19 May 2008 23:04 (seventeen years ago)
a few years ago my brother gave me a birthday card in which he'd written "merry christmas!"
― sunny successor, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)
I'm 39 this year. Next Thursday, actually.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)
Maybe we should swap mums Oilyrags?

― sunny successor, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)
And Beeps. I've not met Beeps yet! I mean, wth! That's just weird. Maybe this weekend? We're not getting involved with Riverfest because we're trying to save money for our upcoming vacation. THREE DAY WEEKEND!
― Ai Lien, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)
Yes! This weekend! Ive said many thanks this week to our American God for this glorious holiday! Were painting the old house at some point but not all weekend (I HOPE) Email or call or something.
― sunny successor, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)
omgosh this is all so sweet i wish i could come and sip a mint julep as you guys catch up.
i KNOW, i'm not invited. i can still have my wishes!
― Surmounter, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)
I remember my wife's birthday and my mom's birtday, and that's IT. Some friend of mine was being passive aggressive that I didn't remember his birthday and I had to be all lol I can hardly remember my own birthday (which is true).
― Dan I., Wednesday, 21 May 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)
It's just so arbitrary, why do people care about it? I always felt it was kind of self-involved that anybody gave a shit about their own birthday, and especially that they expected other people to.
― Dan I., Wednesday, 21 May 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)
Uh, generally speaking. No offense intended to you guys on this thread
