people remembering your birthday

i'm bad about it when it comes to ppl i'm not very close with. but i'm generally pretty good with close friends and family. or someone reminds me. haha

but i think i'm pretty sensitive to people not remembering mine. like if it's my best friend and i get the one-day-late thing, i'm really not too excited about that.

LOL ok thanks but that's really not what i'm doing. but i am pissed cuz my girl like, just didn't get in touch with me. and it was easy for her to remember cuz her birthday's tomorrow and we had been talking. but then she pulled a "belated birthday!" i'm mad but i feel silly.

and the "belated!" was on gmail! at least TEXT ME

I don't mind if people forget my birthday, in fact I don't even bother to celebrate it. I find it's such a s-t-r-a-i-n to have to say "oh on nth of x month, we're all going to et together and enjoy ourselves!", because it does put a lot of pressure on people, this kind of "enforced good time".

yeah i kind of agree. but also bday parties are just an excuse for people to get together -- like i always appreciate it when someone has one, cuz i just get to party.

Em's kind of rubbish at birthdays. Well, rubbish at mine. She remembers it, but always... gives away what she's got me way before, or something. But it doens't really bother me cos I'm not really arsed about birthdays. If someone you don't expect to remember remembers, that's nice. Otherwise... meh.

(xpost) Well, I mean that the pressure to have a good time, to not be a party pooper, can actually cause you to have a miserable time. For anybody really, but particularly if it's your birthday, and on the day you feel a bit under the weather and would rather do it some other time, but you feel like you can't let other people down and have to put on a happy face.

i was a bit more bothered about this this year but not heard a word from my Dad or two v old friends from school days whose 30ths i attended late last year. sod the lot of 'em then.

I've been having dumb recurring dreams that either I forgot or everyone else forgot my wedding. And last night's was like "Oh man, everyone forgot my wedding." *looks at date on wristwatch* "AND: it's my birthday! Everyone forgot my birthday!"

Families are the ones whose JOB it is to remember! That said I always call my mom two days before hers actually is, bcz I have the numbers '23' and '21' confused, apparently. Not as bad as the time I made her a card for her 20th anniversary and it turns out that was last year and this was actually her 21st.

Families' job (immediate family) is also to get butthurt about forgetting birthdays. (Well, this was how I was raised anyway.)

It would have been my dad's 64th today. My mom's 64th was yesterday, and I fell asleep last night before I could call.

Always creepy when people you don't think would remember do - like a barber saying 'isn't it your birthday on thursday?' or something. I guess some people are good at that stuff.

Can't imagine getting seriously grieved at someone for not remembering. A little grumpy, maybe. On the other hand, I love it when people do remember, and would feel pretty damn blue if the whole world forgot.

I think getting annoyed at bday being forgotten depends on whether or not you're the type to remember other peoples bdays - other than immediate fam, i tend to forget, and i don't care if others remember or not. I love birthdays though, so make a big deal out of other peoples if i know about it, and love receiving teh birthday wishes. It doesn't mean i care about the person any less if i forget their birthday, just that my brain is no sponge. So you angry people, maybe mention your birthday in passing a week out from the event, save forgetful loved ones from feeling like shite.

a few years ago my brother gave me a birthday card in which he'd written "merry christmas!"

I remember my wife's birthday and my mom's birtday, and that's IT. Some friend of mine was being passive aggressive that I didn't remember his birthday and I had to be all lol I can hardly remember my own birthday (which is true).

It's just so arbitrary, why do people care about it? I always felt it was kind of self-involved that anybody gave a shit about their own birthday, and especially that they expected other people to.
