Mark G, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

Death by posting on the wrong message board.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

Ah thanks for moving it.

Matt #2, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:35 (seventeen years ago)

Anyway, decapitation for me, so I can find out if it's true that the head carries on living for a while.

Matt #2, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:36 (seventeen years ago)

That would be useful knowledge.

G00blar, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:39 (seventeen years ago)

Didn't we do this just recently?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:40 (seventeen years ago)

sure, but is it really possible to over-poll methods of execution? i may have changed my mind since last time. i'm going for defenestration.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:42 (seventeen years ago)

"torn apart by wild animals (please specify species)"

I chose this and will specify coypus.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:44 (seventeen years ago)

that would take a while. or involve a great many coypu.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

I think I'd have a chance against the whiskery little fuckers

Pashmina, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

I was going to specify guinea-pigs but they'd win because they're too cute to kill.

ILX System, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

firing squad, i think. most dramatic. well, maybe not. but i'd like to be standing there with a blindfold on and a cigarette hanging out of my mouth.

s1ocki, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 23:25 (seventeen years ago)

Granny Dainger, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 23:26 (seventeen years ago)

nice lethal injection. i'm assuming that's just off to sleep.

darraghmac, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

In most states three chemicals are used for lethal injection: Sodium thiopental, pancuronium bromide, and potassium chloride. The first of these is considered an ultra-short-acting bromide which is effective as an anesthesia for just a few minutes. The second, pancuronium bromide, marketed as Pavulon, paralyzes the skeletal muscles without affecting the nerves or brain. The individual injected with Pavulon is conscious without being able to move or speak, thus giving the impression of serenity or tranquility. In the state of Tennessee, it is a crime for veterinarians to use this drug in euthanizing pets. The final injection, potassium chloride, stops the heart while causing excruciating pain. The effect of this “cocktail,” according to testimony by Dr. Mark J.S. Heath who teaches anesthesiology at Columbia, is “that the sodium thiopental can be inadequate or wear off”…leaving “the prisoner conscious, paralyzed, suffocating and subject to extreme pain from the potassium chloride” (Liptak, NYT, 10/7/2003).

According to Judge Ellen Hobbs Lyle, “The subject gives all the appearances of a serene expiration when actually the subject is feeling and perceiving the excruciatingly painful ordeal of death by lethal injection…the Pavulon gives a false impression of serenity to viewers, making punishment by death more palatable and acceptable to society” (Liptak, NYT, 10/7/2003).

When the state of Florida executed Bennie Demps by lethal injection a year ago, it did not go smoothly.

Execution officials had a problem finding a vein

"He complained about the procedure and said that he bled profusely," said George Schaefer, attorney for Bennie Demps.

What witnesses saw was Demps strapped to the gurney and screaming, "They butchered me" before he finally succumbed.

In a separate incident in Texas, execution, defense attorney Karen Zellars vividly recalls the lethal injection of her client Stephen McCoy 12 years ago.

"He lurched forward, pulling the gurney up with him," she said. "It was so violent that a news reporter behind me passed out cold on the floor."

s1ocki, Thursday, 22 May 2008 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

I chose impalement because crossbows are cool.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 22 May 2008 06:01 (seventeen years ago)

I love breaking on the wheel... it's like someone decided that there had to be a way of making crucifixion worse.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 22 May 2008 10:55 (seventeen years ago)

Firing squad. Bullets and gunsmoke, just like a gangsta

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

chucked out a plane for me please! i'd like to know the absolute horror of knowing I'm going to die and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it and deciding to just enjoy the trip down.

the next grozart, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:11 (seventeen years ago)

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:31 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going for crucifixion as I've heard you recover in a couple of days.

onimo, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:38 (seventeen years ago)

That depends how important your dad is

Tom D., Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:40 (seventeen years ago)

I chose impalement because crossbows are cool.

I think impalement generally means being lowered onto a spike, either through the anus (quick-ish), or fiendishly avoiding all the major organs with your hands tied behind your back so you slowly slide down (slow).

I forgot to include stabbing!

Matt #2, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

I want a tube shoving up my bottom and starving rats fed down it so they eat me from the inside out.

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:56 (seventeen years ago)

(I don't really.)

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 22 May 2008 11:56 (seventeen years ago)

Be careful what you wish for

Tom D., Thursday, 22 May 2008 12:03 (seventeen years ago)

I'm kind of torn between wild animals

Hurting 2, Thursday, 22 May 2008 13:34 (seventeen years ago)

That's only kind of an execution.

Abbott, Thursday, 22 May 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

ILX System, Thursday, 22 May 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

I should have went with a combination of firing squad and impalement by crossbow. :(

That way they would at least aim for my heart, and have the dignity to save my face; and I would get to be shot by more than one crossbow which would be pretty cool.

CaptainLorax, Friday, 23 May 2008 04:36 (seventeen years ago)

six years pass...

György Dózsa was from Transylvania and led an unsuccessful peasants' revolt against the landed nobility during the reign of King Vladislas II of Hungary. He failed and then came his terrible, worse than Edward ii's alleged method of execution:

He was captured after the battle, and condemned to sit on a heated smoldering iron throne with a heated iron crown on his head and a heated sceptre in his hand (mocking at his ambition to be king). While he was suffering in this way, a procession of nine fellow rebels, who had been starved beforehand, were led to this throne. In the lead was Dózsa's younger brother, Gergely, who was cut in three before Dózsa despite Dózsa asking for Gergely to be spared. Next, executioners removed hot pliers from fire and forced them into Dózsa's skin. After pulling flesh from him, the remaining rebels were ordered to bite where the hot iron had been inserted and to swallow the flesh. Those who refused, about three or four, were simply cut up which prompted the remaining rebels to do as commanded. In the end, Dózsa died on the throne of iron from the damage that was inflicted while the rebels who obeyed were let go without further harm.
